Foodgrain output touches all-time high of 40.72 lakh tonnes
28 lakh hectares brought under cultivation
No shortage of chemical fertilizers, DAP
CM satisfied over arrangements for Rabi crops
CHANDIGARH: The production of foodgrains in Kharif 2005 in Haryana has hit an all-time high of 40.72 lakh tonnes. The previous highest figure of 39 lakh tonnes was recorded in 2003-04. The State also brought an area of 28 lakh hectares under cultivation during Kharif 2005, which is also a record since the inception of the State, Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda said here on Wednesday while presiding over a meeting of the State-level coordination committee for agriculture production.
Director Agriculture R.K. Khullar said that the State had recorded production of 32.89 lakh tonnes of rice, 26,000 tonnes of Jawar, 29,000 tonnes of maize, 6.70 lakh of Bajra and 58,000 tonnes of Kharif pulses. The production of sugarcane was pegged at 7.84 lakh tonnes and that of cotton 15.87 lakh bales. He claimed that there was no shortage of chemical fertilizers and DAP for Kharif 2005.
While reviewing the cultivation of crops and production of foodgrains during Rabi 2005-2006, it was observed that a target had been fixed to produce 95.60 lakh tonnes of foodgrains as against the production of 92.26 lakh tonnes during 2004-05. Mr. Khullar said that the targeted foodgrains would include 92.40 lakh tonnes of wheat, 1.50 lakh tonnes of barley, 1.50 lakh tonnes of gram and 20,000 tonnes of other Rabi pulses. The Chief Minister expressed satisfaction over the input arrangements made for the Rabi crops by various Government agencies. It was informed that while electricity was supplied to agricultural tubewells for eight to 10 hours daily during Kharif 2005, on an average 271 lakh units were being supplied daily during this month till January 10. A target has been fixed to supply 20 to 25 per cent more electricity this year as compared to the last year. While reviewing the distribution of agricultural loans, it was observed that as against disbursement of Rs. 1,712.53 crores in cash as well as kind during Kharif 2004, Rs. 2,115 crores have already been disbursed till date.
