The Customs officer faxed us the papers and queried whether export of leather of wild animals was banned according to Indian laws. The next day, he phoned too (I was looking after commercial matters in the Consulate). I told him that in India, buffalo was not a wild animal, but a domestic one, in the same way as was the case with cow. He did not believe. I asked him whether he had seen a buffalo earlier. He said: “Yes I see it on National Geographic Channel” of TV. I told him that we see it in our houses. He asked me how many buffalos were in my house. I told “at least 10” (though I lied about this). He was surprised how a wild animal like buffalo can be domesticated and was so productive that its milk was as good as cow’s – both in quality and quantity. When I sent this fact in writing, the consignment was released.

It is the hard work of Jats which has done this wonder – domesticating the buffalo (mheinss).

aapne bahut badhiya baat batai.....:) the way people think about Indians and the way we domesticate these animals, no matter what just to exploit them and make use of all resourses outta them. Take for example Muhraha breed, its origin is Rohtak district and presisely Jhajjar, with unimaginaable production and U will be surprised to know that we have hardly any pure bred muhraha left now :(
