Worthy members, by now you all must have come to know about the shameful act of two teachers at Durjanpur,.......hope the name of the village is correct[distt Jind] school, where in 7 girls of this unfortunate village were sexually exploited over a period of time.More shameful is the fact that one of the teacher [PTI] was just appointed six months back and the second one was serving in that school for last 15 years at a stretch.

This expose was made by ZEE TV and but for the efforts of this channel, this scandal could not have come to light.Alarm bells were sounded when a ninth class student became pregnent and matter was reported to the PANCHAYAT and once this was done a lot more was divuldged by the girls who were exploited in past few days and months. One of these teachers was responsible for the pregnency of one of the village girls last year but the family of the girl was very poor and this idiot[teacher] supposedly paid money to the family to keep their mouth shut. This expose has brought so many questions to the fore and they may be:

1] Many more girls across the state must have been exploited like this by these teachers as they put fear of exams in the minds of the girl students and girls being weak in studies must be giving in.
2] Lack of awareness in rural areas also is a reason that our shy girls don't open their mouth in the beginning when these vultures start making advances.
3] Our innocent people have great faith in the teachers and hence their activities go un-noticed and unreported.
4] Even uneducated parents can't advise their daughters correctly during adolescence, thereby making these young girls susceptible to these animals.
5] I am affraid that in govt schools it is free for all with headmasters/principals being like sitting ducks.

I will request bhai NAVIN GULIA and all others taking up the challenge ahead in shape of JAT JAGRITI to include these very important aspects in their curriculum while interacting with village elders and students to safeguard our gulible girls from this avoidable exploitation.

THE ABOVE FACTS HAVE BEEN REPORTED LIVE BY ZEE TV.Any correction/addition is welcome as i don't have first hand info please.

Latest is that villagers have locked up the school and 7 teachers have been dismissed.

Shameful, disgusting But Not Surprising As The Law Less Ness In This Country Is Increasing Day By Day And People Are Becoming More And More Confident That They Can Commit Crimes And Get Away Without Being Punished.

Extremely disgusting and shameful. What is the Khap doing about it? When the disclosure was made and where these criminals are at this point?

In this country itself we were taught:

Guru Govind do khade, Kake lagu paon
Balihari Guru aapno Goving dio batay.

They have malinged the entire Teaching community. What faith people will have in the system? As it is people had been hesitant in sending the girl child to school, what effects such acts will have on the society?

These acts needs to be condemned in strongest possible manner and culprits brought to books publicly and as soon as possible.

The Khap?...Ah well, I presume they have other important things to take care of, and are probably busy for example, breaking up marriages and pronouncing the man and wife as 'brother' and 'sister'!

And shouldn't the Khap itself be prosecuted for their failure to monitor such important issues. If the damm teacher has been in there for 15 years and having sex with girls of tender age, how is it possible that the Khap just did not know any thing for such a long time. This puts the question marks on the credibility of the Khap itself.

Dear members

This is really a shamefull act and responsible persons should be behind the bars upto this time but as Dev sir mentioned abt not even a FIR is been lodged so far it means Panchayat and administration are sleeping and its the responsibility of Govt. minister and CM to see the matter and order to the police to take the action. If govt. sleep like this than who will protect poor people.
Wake up Administration of Jind.

And i am sure that this must be the tip of the iceberg as it must be galore in entire state. Our girls in the villages lack confidence and parents just don't bother as to what is happening to them.Secondly there is no one to guide these poor girls and hence they are at recieving ends. These ghag teachers know these weaknesses do exist and thus exploit the situation to hilt. They are capable of blackmailing girls by putting fear in their minds that they will fail them if don't agree to what they want? Problem is compounded by the fact that most of the students are damn weak in English and Maths and don't want to fail and hence scumb to the pressure. Just by appointing Nikkamma teachers is not going to solve the problem...what is eeded is the competent teachers, which i find a far cry. I have known so many teachers who teach English in Haryanavi and know no other language than the local one. Long way to go for our kaum. Virendra sir,i am affraid that these KHAPS are just useless. These politicians and khaps will do nothing...it is the people like Navin Guliya,Shailendra Tokas,Uday Dahiya,Deepak Dahiya,Sumit pawar,Anil Dabas,Gagan Dhilon etc who have to spread their wings and do something to save these girls from the clutches of vultures and they only can connect to students towards bringing about a qualitative shifts in the attitudes of students and parents if any transformation in education system has to take place.

I am surprised that not a single jatland Women member has found time to react to this important social problem.Strange indeed!

Dear Dev & Friends,

May be the women members are waiting for one of our male members, supposedly fully motivated to do something for the nation after watching 'Rang De Basanti', to declare that he has shot dead those seven teachers.... Anyway, that was that but the pun is very much intended.

However, I fail to understand as to what was the village doing when all this exploitation was taking place? Let us not single out only this village or villages. There have been numerous incidents in Universities too, where few
Phd students were sexually exploited.

Now let us discuss this issue. Is the responsibility of the parents or village elders only to send the child to school? Was there not a single individual in the village who had this basic knowledge that maximum child molestation cases are accredited to those who are indeed very closely related to the child. How come the teachers were successful in exploitation over a period of years? Don't the parents ask their daughters "Beti, aaj school mein ke padhaya"? If the teachers were taking extra classes or tutions, were they supervised by some male member of they were busy playing cards or was it time for their evening 'Sharab ki Thailee'? What were the mothers doing? Watching 'Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thee'?

I don't want to go into other questions that may not go down well with members but the fault lies within. False pride (in villages men don't even accompany their pregnent wife to the local dispensary) and Ego of being 'zamindars' of half an Acre of land and father of 'so many sons' would destroy us. We have a place for 'Dangar Dhor' in our houses but not one appointed place for a girl child to study.

There are hundreds of solutions to avoid this kind of exploitation in our schools but for that we have to give up our 'ATTITUDES' first. And this is not the last incident of its kind.

Regards,

JS Malik

Teachers rape 17 girls, suspended
Shreya Dhoundial, CNN-IBN, Updated 0852 hrs IST (+GMT 5:30), 09.02.06

Jind: With the villagers up in arms over the mass rape of girls in a school in Jind, Haryana, the Education Department of the state has swung into action and has suspended seven members of the staff including the two accused teachers and the principal.

Two teachers of the Durjanpur Senior Secondary School in Jind had been raping the students studying in class eight and nine for the past eight months. It was only when a ninth-standard girl got pregnant and told her family that the incident came to light.

The extremely conservative community of Jats are outraged and have threatened to go on a hunger-strike till the accused are caught and punished. Angry villagers say that they will kill the two teachers, who taught Mathematics and Physical Education at the school, if they catch them before the administration does. Two other girls had also got pregnant, but the teachers had forcibly got abortions done.

Says DG School Education Haryana, K K Khandelwal,"A team of officials visited the village and met with the Sarpanch and village elders who told them the whole story."

"The three girls who had got pregnant had been enrolled as private candidates who wanted to appear for the Board exams through an Open School, without the permission of the Principal. The teachers involved in enrolling them without the consent of higher authorities have also been suspended as they added to the circumstances," he added.

After the girl, who got pregnant went to her parents reporting the incident, the teacher reportedly approached the family and offered them Rs 1.5 lakh to get the girl aborted. The family had reportedly agreed to this and some money even changed hands before better sense prevailed and they decided to lodge an FIR.

When a mahapanchayat (village committee meet) was convened in the village, sixteen other girls came forward and revealed that they had been raped, too. One of the teachers had been working in the school for nearly 19 years, and now both are absconding.

Tension is palpable in Jind, and the villagers say if administration cannot bring the guilty to book, they will dispense justice their way. Angry villagers have threatened to kill the teachers if they are caught. The parents, who were initially reluctant to report the matter to the police, have now lodged an FIR (First Information Report).

"Today as per the information father of one of the girls has come forward and lodged an FIR at the police station. The FIR has been lodged under Section 676 B," said Durjanpur Sub-divisonal Magistrate Mohammad Shahin.

The Haryana government was quick to react to the incident. Joint Director of Education Haryana, Ajit Singh Sangwan expressed his dismay at the incident and said that they would do all in their power to apprehend the teachers and punish them. All the teachers of the school are being transferred and a brand new staff is being brought in.

Exceptions are always there.

You are right sir,by in large the condition of the villages is the same as highlighted by you. In addition i would like to say that following amenities are not available in most of the villages DUE TO POOR MANDSET OF OUR PEOPLE.They had been here on this present location for thousands of years but could not qualm about a very basic infrastructure for themselves and specially for Women. It is a shame and reflects the ugly mindset.

1] Most of the villages don't have proper toilets for ladies/even bathrooms are not there and ladies have to take bath by putting charpoys as cover[shameful]
2] There are no health centres and if there is one in some villages, the nurses knit sweaters and sell medicines...then who will tell these adolescent girls about personal hygiene and other personal things?
3] Our older ladies do tell the girls but their own knowledge is outdated.
4] There is a taboo in our community regarding any discussion on sex related topic as it is considered as reproductive process and women are not suppose to disclose even if they suffer from serious sex disease [then what can we expect]
5] There are no seperate rooms or cupboards for girls/ladies.Ek billanggani arr ek saall[horrible]
6] No body bothers about the welfare of the girl child. Kaam karr arr rotti kha is the concept. No monitoring as to what is happening with the girls. If she is healthy and breathing..that much is enough.
7] Education is a mirage for these unfortunate creatures as a very few can make it beyond 10+2 and they too are just passengers.
8] Shaddi kar dyo pendda chhutta lyo...is the maxim with our people.

There are many ills, our society is in grip of and will take a real ground level efforts and sacrifices if these poor girls have to be brought at par with the civilized world.

Clear cut case of apathy of highest order.Total failure on the part of parents, elders and panchayat...with what to say of administration and Govt. A silent killar was let loose to do what he pleased..........What a shame? OFCOURSE THE PART OF BLAME MUST GO TO THESE GIRLS ALSO FOR NOT OPENING UP AND GIVING IN SILENTLY.......Atleast one could have given a kick to the rascal where it hurts most.

I am sorry to hear about all of this.
I know that there are differences between cities and villages in India.
Maybe more people from cities should go back to villages on a goodwill mission to help women and female teenagers.
Volunteer/Paid organizations to help villages should be made.

Dear Dev Sir and everybody,
Sorry for replying late to this post as I was busy and didn’t notice it.
This incident is in itself deplorable and the teachers should get the punishment but I feel instead of throwing stones at others, we as a community have to take the blame.
If we say we have never heard about sexual abuse of school children then we are too ignorant. It happens and one keeps reading such incidents in papers.
Why should we be blamed?
Because we have never educated our children about the abuse they can face and how to protect themselves. It is not sex education, it is simply telling the children about abuse. Like in the US, UK and some countries the children from a small age are told where an adult should not touch them, what he should not say in front of them and what he should not do in front of them and they are also told that if any one does such a thing they should immediately inform their parents. Why don’t we do this in our community? I would request all parents to talk to their kids (please for gods sake don’t be shy about this, it is criminal not to tell your child).
Secondly, why do we treat our girls/women so badly?
When a girl is raped, why do we say she has lost everything and the boy has lost nothing? Why don’t we treat these girls as any other girl? Why are they given step motherly treatment? The parents are not coming forward because they know the society will ill treat the girls, that’s why they are staying silent.
If a boy has had girl friends in the past he can still marry but if a girl has even talked to a boy her marriage is broken up. We don’t treat our girls and women fairly. We don’t give them the due respect.
I will ask the young men here, how many of them would marry a girl who had been sexually abused in the past for no fault of hers.
The community and society has to take its major share of the blame. If we don’t educate our kids we are to blame. These girls were never told that’s why this continued for such a long time.
Those were my views and I stand by them strongly.

Yes, Dev Sir, we are willing to talk to the elders and parents about it and we will try our best but I ask, how many are willing to listen? Are the members on Jatland willing to listen and understand

My dear Navin,

I have already highlighted the problem areas and i know that these things had been happening under the nose of parents. When we say sex education...telling the girls about their modesty and the limit to which a social undue behaviour be accepted forms part of this aspect. It is combined responsibility and yes parents do have to share a bigger burdon but then if we want our daughters to be safe and happy, certain sacrifices are called for and people who understand this responsibility are not sparing any efforts but unfortunately in the villages there is a real communication gap between teeagers and parents/elders. Problem is compounded by the migration of educated families from the villages.

I will request you to devote sometime on this very important aspect without unduly worrying about the sentiments of the handfulls out here.Should that deter a person like you?

These types are crimes are increasing at a rapid pace in our society. I know my elders used to say that atleast our country is free from these scandals as compared to other western countries. But today we see that how this 'sex crime' is deep rooted in our society. I am sure it was there some 10-20 years as well but it was hidden due to society pressure, shyness to discuss these matters in family, lack of education etc. Today, it's all open!

I feel these people are sick and a capital punishment is the only resort for these crimes. Rapes/molestation/eve-teasing are happening in every street, in many homes. There is no fear of law and even law makers are a part of it. I am of the view that something should be done urgently at national level otherwise one day our mothers/sisters/wife/daughters could be one of the victims.

Poonam, I think the birth of such devils is a bigger blow.

Ram Ram,

It is really very shameful for our society. India is the only country where "GURU SISHYA PARAMPARA" was in our society, but this kind of shameful act Guru is become "Rakshash" and we should become one againt them and they should be banned from our society e.g. "HUKKA PANI BANDH"

I am more shocked from the fact that the JAT parents remained silent and let their daughters get raped. It was a low caste family which mustered the courage to file the FIR and after that the entire thing got untangled.

Dev Ji,

Kuch din pahle iski news akhbar main ai thi ki village Durjanpur main jo girls ke parents hai woh ab bechar sharm ke mare kuch bhi nahi bol rahe. Village Durjanpur main ek din lote main sab gaon walo se namak dalwaya aur sebse kasam uthwai ki is mamle main koi bhi muh nahin kholega.

Is mamle main parents ko thoda sakhat hona padega aur girls ko bhi bold hona padega nahi to aisa hota hi rahega.
