I have a few questions about the SSB interview for entry into CDS (IMA, OTA):
1. What is the selection ratio for those who have cleared the written exam? Are people from rural background, otherwise qualified, given extra consideration?
2. Is the background of the candidate (science vs. arts, BA vs. BSc, postgraduation) taken into account? or is the selection based solely on the performance/score in the interview (and the wriiten exam) alone. For instance, are people with science background preferred over others?
3. Can the interview results be influenced by "sifarish" and/or money?
Thank you in advance for your responses.

Neeraj,
Sifarish/ghoosh/caste kamjoor insan ki lathi hai, Jat ki nahi.
If u performance in interview is good u will be selected.
Good Luck and best wishes from me.
Selection ho jaye to laddu zaroor bhej dena.

Hi Anil,
I am not appearing for the interview. This is just for information only. I was talking to someone and this topic came up for discussion . He mentioned that "strings can be pulled", whereas I thought that it didn't work that way. So I thought, I should clear this up with the knowledgeable folks at jatland.

mere laddu gaye :-(
"adjustment" to duniye ke har kone mein hota hai...thoda idhar udhar kare bina duniya nahi chalti.
I know of many jo "pahunch" ke karan Kashmir jane se bach jate hain. Entry mein bhi ek chota sa unofficial quota hota hai mai-baap ke liye.

Dear Neeraj and Anil,
Exceptions are always there and can't be denied. But clearing SSB only with 'Sifarish' is impossible. Only when one knows the complete selection procedure and the number of officers involved in the selection process can one realise that SSB is indeed tough. That's why you have one person selected out of 30.
I have said earlier in my posts that the 'Refugees' have made the service in the Armed Forces look like any other job. And yes people do pull strings to avoid service in 'difficult' areas. But I pity those who try and avoid posting to J&K. It always was the most wonderful place to serve and still is. And those who are afraid to die while serving in the Armed Forces are in the wrong profession. May be they should have opened a 'Puncture Theek Karne Ki Dukan' or something else.
Thanks,
Lt Col JS Malik (Retd)

Hello Jagmohan ji,
Thanks for the information. This is a question for you if you are familiar with the nuts and bolts of the SSB process. Do you know if they give importance to the educational background (science vs. arts, etc.) of an applicant, and if yes, how much (relatively of course)?

Dear Neeraj and Arun,
Arun, may I request you to give me the names of the two candidates who qualified the SSB solely on the basis of 'Sifarish'. And the year, month and the number of the SSB. You could send this information to my private E Mail ID. Let me make another point here. Since you appeared in the SSB five times, one of the following could be true. You were not fit enough to be an officer and a gentleman in the Indian Armed Forces or you lacked proper guidance before appearing in the SSB. I hope the latter is true.
Neeraj, I tried to post a small write up about the nuts and bolts of SSB on the site but it does not accapt more than a particular number of characters. May be if you could send me your pvt e mail ID, I would mail the whole thing to you (About five pages).
Thanks,
Lt Col JS Malik (Retd)
