THE RISE OF POLITICS OR THE FALL OF THE NATION

JUST ONE QUESTION IS THERE ARE WE FOR THE GOVERNMENT OR THE GOVERNMENT IS FOR US. CONSTITUION HAS JUST BECOME A WEAPON TO PROTECT VOTE BANKS.HOW MANY OF THEM SIITING AT THE RAISINA HILL ARE CONCERNED WITH ANYTHING EXCEPT THEIR VOTEBANKS. AND ONE MORE QUESTION WHAT DOES THE RESERVATION MEANS .DOES IT MEAN UNITING ALL THE PEOPLE BY BRINGING THEM AT PAR OR DEVIDING THEM FROM EACH OTHER BY MAKING SOME DIFFERENT FROM OTHERS .FOR MANY OF US ITS JUST THE NEWS FOR EVERYDAY BUT WHATS HAPPENING IS NOT ATLEAST FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF ANY OF THE COMMUNITY OR CLASS . ITS JUST FOR THE BENEFIT OF VOTEBANK.

59 YEARS AGO WE WERE SEPERATED ON CASTE SYSTEM AND NOW ON RESERVATION. TAKING A GENERAL VIEW EVEN THE CLASS OF PEOPLE WHO REALLY NEEDED THE BENEFIT OF THE RESERVATION NEVER GOT IT. IN MOST OF THE CASES ONLY THOSE WHO WERE ALREADY IN GOOD POSITION UTILISED IT IN THE WAY THEY WANTED . WETHER THE CREAMY LAYER CASE IS CONSIDERED OR NOT IT’S A DIFFERENT ASPECT. WHAT I WANT TO TELL IS TALENT NEVER REQUIRES SHORTCUTS IN THE GUISE OF RESERVATION.

IS THIS THE FACT THAT PEOPLE IN MANDAL COMMISION OR OUR HUMAN RESOURCES MINISTER ARJUN SINGH THINKS THAT PEOPLE OF DIFFERENT CLASSES OR CASTES HAVE DIFFERENT KIND OF BRAINS SO THEY REQUIRE ACADEMIC RESERVATIONS .
THAT MEANS A LESS TALENTED CANDIDATE OF A FINANCIALLY SOUND FAMIL FROM A LOWER CLASS IS TO GET OPPORTUNITY OVER A TALENTED POOR CHAP FROM A UPPER CLASS BECAUSE THE PRIOR PERSON IS WEAK IN THE EYES OF THE GOVERNMENT . BUT WHO WILL TAKE CARE OF THE SUBSEQUENT CASE .

WE THE PEOPLE OF INDIA WANT TO LIVE UNITED DON’T DEVIDE US ON RELEGION,CASTE ,REGION AND SUCH THINGS. THE OTHER DAY AN MP FROM SOME PARTY WAS CLAIMING RESERVATION ON THE BASIS OF LANGUAGE . I WANT TO ASK IF PEOPLE WITH SUCH NARROW OUTLOOK OR POLITICALLY MOTIVATED OUTLOOK ARE RULING US
ISNT IT A SUPREME CALL OF NATION TO PROTECT IT FROM THE DEADLY DISEASE OF DIRTY POLITICS(POLITICS IS NOT BAD BUT PEOPLE IN IT ARE) BY TAKING SOME HARD STEP INSTEAD OF WATCHING NEWS CHANNEL AT HOME OR SENDING OPINIONS BY SMSes .
AS I HAVE HEARD MANY OF THE PEOPLE FROM ALL THE CLASSES HAVE THIS VIEW THAT RESERVATION SHOULD BE ON THE BASIS OF FINANCIAL CONDITION AND NOT ON THE BASIS OF THE CASTE.OUR PREAMBLE DECLARES IT THAT WE ARE SECULAR SO LET US BE SECULAR WHO ARE OUR POLITICIANS TO DEVIDE US ON CASTES AND RELIGION.
OUR POLITICIANS HAVE ALWAYS TRIED TO PLAY THIS POLITICS OF RELIGION TIME AND AGAIN. LAWS ARE MADE AGAIN AND AGAIN MADE TO DEVIDE US ON THE BASIS OF CASTE AND RELIGION SO THAT THEY CAN RULE US EASILY .

PERSONAL LAWS ARE MADE FOR DIFFERENT COMMUNITIES .FOR EXAMPLE IN MUSLIM COUNTRIES LIKE PAKISTAN BIGAMY IS NOT PERMITTED FOR MUSLIMS WHILE OUR GOVERNMENT CAN NEVER DARE TO CANGE LAWS AND THEY ARE PERMITTED FOUR MARRIAGES IN INDIA. WHEN THE APEX COURT GAVE ITS JUDGEMENT IN SHAH BANO CASE MOVING A STEP FURTHER TOWARDS THE UNIFORM CIVIL CODE THEN THE GOVERNMENT HEADED BY RAJIV GANDHI AGAIN ENACTED LAWS FOR MAKING LAWS MAKING THE JUDGEMENT INAPPLICABLE SO THAT THEIR VOTEBANK IS NOT REDUCED,.

SO WHAT I WANT TO SAY IS THAT NO PURPOSE IS SOLVED BY SUCH RESERVATIONS .I AGREE THAT SOME PEOPLE REALLY NEEDS SUPPORT OF GOVERNMENTS AND SUCH BENEFITS BUT WHY TO GIVE IT ON THE BASIS OF CASTE WHILE IT CAN BE DONE BY SELECTING THEM THROUGH SOME OTHER BASIS SO THAT PEOPLE DON’T FEEL DEVIDED ON THE BASIS OF CASTE . WHAT HAS HAPPENED IN J.N.U. AND IN PATNA IS REALLY SHOCKING . SUCH DECISIONS ARE ALREADY LEADING TO VIOLENT CLASHES BETWEEN PEOPLE OF DIFFERENT CLASSES THAN WHAT WILL HAPPEN WHEN THE LAW WILL BE ENACTED.

AT LAST I WANT TO SAY THAT I AM NOT AGAINST THE WELFARE OF WEAKER SECTION OF THE SOCIETY BUT I SAY EQUITY MUST BE FOLLOWED TO PROTECT THEIR WELFARE.
DON’T DEVIDE ON CASTE OR CLASS . PROVIDE THEM RESOURCES TO LEARN AND POLISH THEIR TALENT SO THAT THEY CAN GO SHOULDER TO SHOULDER WITH ALL THEIR BROTHERS IRRESPECTIVE OF CASTE OR CLASS . PROVIDE THEM WITH OPPORTUNITIES AT SCHOOL LEVEL . SUPPORT THE FINANCILALLY WEAK . EVEN AT THE COLLEGE LEVEL DON’T RESERVE SEATS ON BASIS OF CASTE OR CLASS BUT PROTECT THEIR INTEREST AGAINST INJUSTICE IF THERE IS ANY.SUPPORT THEM FINANCIALLY BUT DONT PROVIDE ACADEMIC SHORTCUTS .

IF THE GOVERNMENT DOES NOT UNDERSTAND S THE IMPORTANCE OF TAKING RIGHT KIND OF STEPS INSTEAD OF FOLLOWING POLITICALLY MOTIVATED PRINCIPLE OF RESERVATION ON BASIS OF CASTE THAN NO LAW CAN ABOLISH THE CASTE SYSTEM FROM INDIA AND SOME WHERE IN NEAR FUTURE THEIR MIGHT BE SEPARATE COUNTRIES OF PEOPLE OF DEFFERENT CASTES INSTEAD OF OUR COUNTRY INDIA.

The future of this country has always been exploited under the hands of these uncivilized and illitrate politicians and you bet me majority of these people cant even spell politician correctly coz they dont know what the 'real' resposibility a politician holds towards its Junta. True but Unfortunately India is suffering from political curse.
The only way to kill this curse is to step ahead and again unfortunately but true not even one in a million is ready to step ahead.

Government is really not interested in the upliftment of the masses. Because once everyone becomes better off, who would need a government.

The evidence to my argument lies in the fact that a humongous majority of middle class in India doesn't even vote. Who cares enough about the government, since the middle class always manages to find its way around the government. They send their children to private schools, get them private tutition, and may even send them abroad for higher education. They earn enough to manage their own personal transport and thus care the least about public transportation. And they care the least about food rations, since they buy groceries from well-stocked grocery stores. So, no one wants to stand 5 hours under the sun, and then face rowdy election officials and struggle to find their names in a highly disorganized and illegible voters list. They had rather stay back home and watch the re-run of "Kahani Ghar Ghar Ki."

However, the poor masses are given false hopes and promises during every election. They are made to feel that they need the government, that would solve their miseries and thus turn this country into a wonderland. So they heavily vote for parties that promise them the most. You may promise them the sky, but you are not obligated to deliver it, since there is always a next election to "promise them the sky."

And on and on the game of deception and chicanery goes on. The masses keep falling victim to broken promises. Politicians understand very clearly what I understand. They have a strong incentive to prevent the masses from living better lives, because the masses will stop voting once they join the middle class.

I always tell everyone that government is not the solution. The only way out of your miseries is to personally struggle out of them. Struggle is infinite. The more you struggle the more you can acheive. Struggle and work hard, so that your children won't have to rely on the "government's kindness."

Dear Nishant,

Thanks a lot for raising a very important issue. Unfortunately, all issues related to the government tend to be hijacked to "One point program" of Sumit "No Government".

Let us now discuss the core issue. "Reservation"

When the constituent assembly framed the constitution, it put a time bar for reservation to 10 years. Since I was neither born nor explained subsequently in life about this 10 year time bar, I only have my own assumption about this time limit that the makers of the constitution might have thought was appropriate.

1950-1960 the time. I guess, a student in 6th grade or above in 1950 would have had enough time to get a post graduate degree and the job, based on the reservation. This probably was enough time for these families to come at par with other communities (so called higher castes) Considering that almost 30-40% of population of the country fell in this category, it made a good sense.

Why did it not end?

The 30-40% of votes, which kept the congress party in power, was too attractive a figure to be flirted with. This led to further extending this time to I guess another 10 years and then forever. Later on more and more caste were to be added as the politicians from other castes got say in the system. Unfortunately, our own politicians whether it was Ch. Charan Singh or Ch. Devilal, also did not raise their voice against it.

What Mistake We the Public Made:

We the middle class people were too busy in our day to day activities, that when it came to voting, we never bothered. (As rightly pointed out by Sumit) But the reason was not that we found our way around the government, but the necessity of being on job to get the day’s meal on the table. Probably that was too expensive an option. The 30-40% vote bank was making less than minimum wages (not defined by the government, but if one considered the cost of living what they were getting was less than what would have been sufficient to feed the family) which was exploited by the rich political parties. They gave more than what a person was making and asked him/her to go and vote. This suited them, for standing in line for vote was far simpler than the hard physical work that this class of the society had been doing otherwise. As against it, the middle class had the luxury of sitting and working under a fan (coolers came later on) and thus did not feel like going out of their comfort zone. So, we did miss out on our opportunities of using our most potent weapon the "VOTE". Fragile Law and order, lack of media coverage, and use of muscle power in politics played its own role in preventing the voters from voting. I read a post from some in from Chaprauli, Baghpat, UP that they had been voting for Ch. Charan Singh again and again. Actually, Chaprauli was one of the places always in news, where any one against Ch. Charan Singh would not have dared to go and vote, and if one did, probably was not allowed to do so.

Now What?

Obviously, the Mandal Commission and the current action of the Government to add reservations do not seem right to me personally. I have always been against any kind of reservation except one purely based on Finances. I feel any one who is financially weak should be given financial aid and not reservations. There are almost now 50% people, who fall under the category of reservations and it would be an uphill task to counter these threats. Surely it is not impossible.

The point I am making is easier said than done. We have to make a concerted effort to get to each and every person in the country to ensure that we do go and vote against any one who is for reservations. We need to make a political party, of those people who would scrap the reservations. Let it alone be the agenda for elections. The best community to do this would be students themselves. When it was fight against British, all the students supported the Freedom movement by leaving colleges. Here we don’t have to leave colleges, but devote valuable time in getting the word spread and agenda executed. I have seen the students spending so much of time in watching movies and cricket games. If just for a year or two we can spend this time to get the word spread, we can achieve our goals.

Action Plan:

Forming a political party of people who don’t want reservations. Selection of right candidates and support for them. Finding finances for running the election campaign. Getting media involved to get the word across. I personally believe we can do it. Can we gather support?

Service Vs. Business

Politics was suppose to be service, Unfortunately, it has become business where the bottom line is profit. It is purely because of this reason, I am against Sumit’s idea of private houses running the infrastructure.
I hope more members would contribute some good ideas and action plans to help the community to come out in support of anti reservation movement. Let us all unite and solve this problem forever.
