A highly regarded Principle of my school. Though he was there much earlier than we entered the school, his influence could be felt even when we were there (15-20 years after he retired). Such was his love and dedication to his students that he used to take round of the villages from where his students came during night time to see that senior students were studying and not sleeping (perhaps because of poor commuting facilities he used to stay in my village). Such was his influence that he could punish students even in there own houses if found sleeping before 11.00 in the night. Students from far distance, including Haryana villages, preferred to study in his school. He could make any sacrifice to make his students successful. There are several instances when he helped his students financially, out of his own pocket so that their education was not interrupted for want of money. He inspired them to work hard and succeed in life. I have no hesitation in admitting, though being good student myself, we were no match to his students. His hard work yielded results and several of his students rose to high positions in IPS, Army and civil services and teaching profession. Not a single student of his remained unemployed. Even 20 years after his retirement he visited our school to see how the students were doing in the school from where he had retired when I had the fortune of meeting him and receiving his invaluable advice.

I remember when I was still a junior student (perhaps in 7th standard) when the senior stuents of our school went on strike against the unreasonable behaviour of the then Principle. The strike went on for about 10 days and no solution could be worked out even after the mediation of village elders and higher authorities from education department, village elders went to Ch. Hoshiyar Singh to mediate. He came the running same day and I vaguely remember him addressing the students and admonishing the Principle (who too happened to be his own student), teachers and parents. As soon as he finished his address, all students went to their classes as if no strike had taken place. Such was his aura and respect.

When he started the school in Bankner (near Narela) a few students from our village went to study there only because of Ch. Hoshyar Singh. Apart from what the news items says, he was a true jat who loved his community from the bottom of his heart. He was always there when the jat community needed him. He was a regular at jat panchayats and was also present at the World Jat Mahasabha in Delhi. I can say without hesitation that the schools where Hoshiyar Singh remained Principal were far far better than the present public schools and we must be grateful to him that he chose rural schools as his 'karamsthali'.

It was my love and respect for this great teacher that his name readily came to my mind while naming a few great jats on this very Jatland.com a few months back.

I bow my head to you, Sir. Thanks for everything you did for jats in general and for your students in particular. Be in peace wherever you are, Sir.

(His age in the news item is not given correctly. Most of his students have already retired. How he could be only 76. He must have been 96 and not 76, a typographical error perhaps or wrong supply of data to the press).

Dear Sir,
His age is correct but his year of retirement is not correct, he was retired in 1996.

Dear Surinder,

Good to know that you are related to that great soul Principal Hoshiyar Singh. Please accept my heartfelt condolences. I am sure my whole village (Kair), where he was Principal in 60s, must be under a great shock to learn about his sad demise. When he is not in our midst, it is time that we follow his ideals and principles and respect the values he stood for all his life. May God give strength to all his relations, well-wishers and students strength to bear the great loss.

Principal Hoshiar Singh was a great soul. I had the chance of meeting him 3-4 times in Sampla and Delhi. His concerns have always been the uplift of the community and specially its education. He surely will be missed. My heartfelt condolences to Mr. Rana and the family.

Dear Rana

It was with great sadness that I learn about Hoshiyar Singh Thakran Death.
I wish to send my most heartfelt condolences to his family. I feel that I know Thakran even though we have never met, since I was able to spend time with his Banjee (Sister’s daughter), Uncle Thakran were always the main subject of our conversation.

His charm and openness was the great strength at the centre of his exceptional and inspirational ability to communicate that allowed him entry into minds and hearts of people of all ages and walks of life who were lucky enough to encounter him.

His gentleness will be sorely missed by all those whose lives HE touched.
I mourn his loss.

With Deepest Condolence
Surinder

A Tribute to a great soul.

I heard the name of principal Hoshiar Singh from childhood in educational field.
Swami Omanand ji visited London to attend World Aryasamaj conference in 1981 and stayed in our house for 2 months. Principal Sahib was in close contact with Swami ji by letters from India.

He was right hand of swami ji in Arya samaj moement.
He helped Swami ji to established Kanya Gurukul Narela Delhi in Swami ji Fatherland . I came in contact with him during this time. When Swami ji Left London for India on Dewali day. We saw off Swami ji at London Heathrow airport and informed Hoshiar Singh ji. He was at Delhi Airport to welcome Swami ji with Dhool & Garlands.
Hoshiar Singh ji took Swami ji to Gurukul Narela in big procession- Jhalus of few thousands Gurukul girl students and teachers- Achariya- Shastri chanting Ved mantra.
Gurukul Girls Singing sSongs.
Sakhi Darsan karlo hey.
Bhaga alla Aaya.
Ilaka Anpadh tha Vedya ka parchari aaya.
London mae Visav Gayan ki joyti Jaga kar aaya.
Dharmpal ny bhi London ky Jatoo ky
Ghar Ghar mae Hawan karaya.
All this in Swami ji book- Meri Vedesh Yatra
Uk- England- USA.
Principal Hoshiar Singh organised frist Jats world Youth conference in ChhotuRam College Kanjhawala in 1986 with the help of Capt Bhagwan Singh Ex-president of All India Jat Maha Sabha. Principal Hoshiar Singh Invited me to this conference and my message to world Jat conference was published in Indian press. I still have copy of the invitation and the message published in Aadhunik JatHistory. Written by me. I have meet Principal Sahib few more times in Gurukul Jhajjar. Last time I met him by chance out side Arya Samaj Mandir Bhadur Garh standing with Swami ji.
He was a great Social worker, Guru,Teacher and a Guide.
Unke sath Siksha ka aak Yung ka Aant ho gaya.
May God bless peace to his noble soul.
Our condolences is with his family and friends
