ISLAMABAD: The only Hindu temple in the Pakistani city of Lahore has been demolished to pave the way for construction of a multi-storied commercial building.

The temple was recently demolished after officials of the Evacuee Property Trust Board (EPTB), the government body maintaining properties of minorities, specially Hindus and Sikhs, reportedly concealed facts from the board chairman about the nature of the building, daily 'Dawn' reported on Tuesday.

A private developer was allowed to demolish 'Krishna Mandir' at Wachhoowali, Rang Mahal and raise a commercial building in its place in violation of the EPTB's own scheme for management and disposal of urban evacuee trust properties, it said.

Quoting documents, the paper said board officials did not mention that the property being given to an influential jeweller of the area, was a Hindu temple.

Had the officials indicated in the correspondence with the chairman that the property was a Hindu temple, he might have rejected the request for its transfer to the jeweller-developer for the construction of a four-storey commercial building, an EPTB official was quoted as saying.

The demolition was objected to by several opposition members of the National Assembly like Pakistan Peoples Party, and Pakistan Muslim League-N, who reportedly moved a motion against the demolition, saying such an act could have a bearing on Pakistan's relations with neighbouring countries.

When Gujarat Municipality demolished a century old dargah along with some temples a couple of months ago in Baroda to construct the road...then these mullahs there made so much hue and cry ...and accused modi of being partial towards Muslims

Bet me there'll be no actions, no revolts. People just wait for a miracle and they keep waiting forever.

Very right bhai saheb.
And then some people like to claim that they not Hindus, only Jats.

Where is the Jatness of the Pakistani Muslims who are doing such things that a Hindu Jat would never do ?

In Saudi Arabia they demolished even Prophet Mohmud's house for the developmental work.. Let us not read too much into such incidences. If I had my say, I will demolish all road side illegal religious stuctures in India where they run businesses. There are 100s of them in every city.

it is like saying, a person who is in the habit of beating his children can do the same with the neighbours, and the neighbour should not complain!@

What Arabians or somebody does to their religious places is their headache. Does it give right to destroy other peoples' places of worship as well ?

In Muslim countries they think that its all their walls or their matter... They demolished hindu structures there long bak and will keep doing.. Why did Hindus leave Pakistan and came to India ? Why did they not fight there and lived there if they are so attached to their temples ?

Thats a fair question.

But it is not correct to say that no importance should be given to demolitions of religious places. At least people have a right to put forth their opinion.

Yes certainly people have right to put forth their opinion. Demolition of religious and historical buildings is also wrong. However, when a bunch of fanatics has decided otherwise, who is going to stop them? Good people of whole world cannot shadow fanatics every time and everywhere. Such things have been happening for centuries and will keep happening unless addressed right in time. Different religious philosophies are like tectonic plates under Earth and will keep causing Earthquakes for times to come.

Rightly said. Shadowing doesn't work.
Problem is not with religious philosophies. But with misguided philosophies that coat themselves as religions.
Whereas, in actual religions, it is the practitioners who cause "earthquakes"

Physically it is impossible to police bad persons.
The answer has to be at a different level. Something that appeals to human intellect. Something thats more permanent.
