I am a new member of Jatland. I am applying for 2007 residency match in USA. I ned guidance and help as I donot know much about it except taking USMLE exams. If any Jat bhai who i working in USa as doctr can guide me then I will be really happy. How can I get US doctors references and can I get externship in some US hospital.

Hi Shamsher, First, we happen to share a common first name. Anyway, since you are applying now, it is better to find an observership sopt now so that there is a chance of getting a reccomendation letter. If you happen to know someone in Seattle, then it,s good but even if you do not know anyone, just drop into the secreteray,s ofice in the major hospitals in the city after making an appointment or mailing prior to your visit. Make an impressive, concise(1 page) CV and request fro an observership spot. If you happen to get one, it might be possible to be absorbed in the same program. Geting residency is tough nowadays even with perfect scores....so no effort is small at this point of time.....i can count enough people with excellent qualifications going in for poor programs. Also, talk to people who have interviewed, go to the online forums for FMG's and leram as much as possible about programs which you intend to apply for. I would suggest making a list now and start shortening it based on your criteria like- H1 or J1, university or community program, whether you would go in for a pre-match or risk the match....etc... Also youe scores...esp. step 1 is important...and if keen on H1, it,s better to have attempted or cleared step 3. If you need further clarification, feel free to mail in to me....
