Hey Vikrant,
GMAT or Graduate Management Admission test is just one pre-requisite to get an admit in a univ for pursuing MBA. The other parts are:-
1) Recommendations letters (varying from 2 to 4 and only from work places and not academic or personal relation recos )
2) Personal essays-- again varying from univ to univ but average about 5 per univ. These are different for each univ
3) GMAT--Note some of the lower ranked univs do not even require GMAT!! but it is required for the average and the better ones.
4) Academics-- A minimum four year Bachelor degree with good GPA.
5) Work Experience -- Average 4 to 5 years and minimum 2 to 3 years
6) Interview -- which is the last but not the least step that the univ will take. Many interview only the strong candidates, some try to interview most.
I would say that first register on www.mba.com (http://www.mba.com) which you would in any case need to do to register for the GMAT exam. The GMAT like GRE was initially administered by ETS. Now GMAT is conducted by Pearson VUE. You will find all the necessary info there and the official info booklet for the GMAT exam (which you can download).
Scholarships are rare specially in the top 10 univs and all 6 points above need to be strong. Mostly people take a loan as US univs are very expensive in general.
On an average it takes about one year to go through the whole process of exam, application and admission.
cheers,
