DEAR ALL
i am starting this thread to ascertain your views on one of the greatest war hero of india and the only jat to win the PARAM VIR CHAKRA THE HIGHEST BRAVERY AWARD OF INDIA. I am talking about col hoshiar singh PVC,I am not sure how many of the younger genration of jats have heard about him or to a certain extent the older genration also.
i was today going through a thread by a fellow jat member who has listed the names of brave the jats in varoius fields including army. I think if winning the highest award for bravery is not bieng brave enough then what's it.
the bloodiest battle of the INDO PAK WAR 71 was fought by then maj hoshiar singh the fact which justifeis it is that that apart from maj hoshiar singh getting the THE PARAM VIR CHAKRA the tank officer who came to support him (as the paksitanis when realishing they cannot overrun maj hoshiar singh and his men had sent tanks to to run over them) LT ARUN KHETRAPAL ALSO GOT THE PARAM VIR CHAKRA.THE opposing enemies of both maj hoshair singh and khetrapal also got the highest bravery award of pakistan THE NISHAN-E-HAIDER.its the only occasion in not only the history of INDO -PAK WAR but probably the world also.
after the cease fire the pakistani officers came over to the indian side for interaction with indians, they exprsed the desire to meet the coy cdr who had fought this battle (ie maj hoshiar singh)but by that time he was already evacucated to hospital being serously injured.
the point of highlighting his bravery now is to keep his memory alive in the minds of the fellow jats and to aprize the younger jats of his acts of heroism.
i am presently serving in the same battalion of which maj hoshiar belongs to and presently we are in ethopia in un mission.I had chance meeting with few PAKISTANI MILITARY OFFICERS also serving in the UN.THEY started asking me about the well being of maj hoshiar singh. i said how do u know him? they were surprised by my question they said as a soldier they respect a soldier and his act of valour is highly respected in the history of pakistan army .IN FACT THEY TOLD ME HE BELONGED TO a village called SISANA which surprised me no end.
IT saadens me no end to know that here is a man whose bravery is acknowleged and respected in PAKISTAN BUT THERE IS NO TRACE or sign of his name in his home state of harayana.
i wish the politicians of his home state at least take a cue from the pakis and respected his bravery and heroism now .
though there is a road named after him in colaba mumbai an a statue in jaipur but then it is the home which matters in this case HARAYANA.
