That's right: This style became infamous at the 1932/33 Test cricket series between England and Australia.

Played in Australia, that series gained notoriety in Australian and worldwide cricketing history for the fact that the English team (having no answer to Don Bradman) applied a bowling technique called "leg theory", or more commonly, as Bodyline.

This technique involved bowlers bowling the ball directly at the batsman's body, and resulted in many of the Australian team receiving numerous bruises and injuries, with batsman Bert Oldfield sustaining a cracked skull.
Of course, it is mute point to say that this particular series generated much anger and resentment towards the English team within Australia and seriously damaged Anglo-Australian cricketing relations at that time....

Hence also the famous rivalry between the two Nations on cricketing grounds ever since!

By the way a very good TV series on the same was aired on Doordarshan I remember... called by the same name 'Bodyline'...
I remember watching it religiously as a kid...

NOTE: Here is a poster attached from that same Serial, for the ones who still remember it!
