I commute on a particular route everyday and face traffic jam and not a single traffic police man to clear it except on rare occasion. Why can't we as citizens of this country and residents of Delhi not get a clear road.If a tree falls on the road or a major accident takes place then again traffic is stuck for hours. Our honourable Supreme Court has increased the amount of challan by Rs.500/-.Most of us must have paid that amount by now because once we are on the road then we all face jams and then sometimes jump red lights and increase the speed to save time.Hon'ble Chief minister Sheila Dikshit ji doesnt face the same problems herself because when she will be on the road then obviously you will get to see traffic policemen fulfilling their duty with utmost dedication.I wish there was no discrimination between us and them on security grounds and their status and everyday they had to travel in the same conditions.Possibly then we could ask how she feels and does she feel like giving the same message of showing patience on road.Supreme Court's concern is right in checking people from violating traffic rules but then why should be the commuter the sufferer. If we suffer on road and are stuck on a red light for more than say 10 minutes then the Government should compensate for our losses.Someone may at that time may have to reach hospital in emergency and the someone else may be rushing for a meeting. My question is how have they improved the roads or the traffic situation in Delhi after levying all the taxes and heavy challans?Do you all feel that the traffic situation has improved after increasing the amount of challans?
If the speed is excess then traffic police slams challan on us .There are 4-5 policemen to slam challan but none to clear jam even on a route where they know that everyday at a particular time there is jam.You ask them this question and they would shamelessly sneer at you.
If we are looking for traffic to be disciplined or people of Delhi to follow rules then there should be better facilities on road as well.Whose responsibility is to provide better facilities on road.Forget about the nuisance created by Blue line buses those who commute by their own vehicle are also not safe.

The answer is because we are a third world country. Many ppl who visit this blog may be at par with first world citizens.....but they are a minority, there are atleast 800 million Indians out there who are almost illiterate, uncivilized and are third world ......... in our Indian mobocracy....mobs rule..thats why the traffic is stopped up, there are no turn lanes on the road, they are too narrow to support the current traffic load..... its not just the traffic police......look at how ppl drive........... they are impatient, chaotic, honk all the time...... pet mein aag lagi hui hai.......pata nahin kya pahad todna hai inhe 5 min jaldi pahaunch ke. there is trash on the streets and animals running around everywhere. Public services in India are the worst in the world except a few bhikhari countries like Bangladesh and some African countries.
Despite all this nonsense being perpetrated on the citizens, there are Indians out there who feel hurt when these things get published in the press especially international press ........ they don't even want to acknowlegs how royally they are being screwed by their leaders .... I have no sympathy for these kind of people.. they deserve what they get. The 800 million poor majority are illiterate, casteist, and most of them are plain idiots and easily manipulated by the politicians...... they vote for the politician of their caste...who keeps screwing them over and over and over...and decent ppl also get screwed for no fault of theirs
In conclusion.........you should realize that you will have no say in the way goverment works........becasue you are outnumbered by atleast 800 million ignorant ppl who have the right to vote and they vote for caste, religion etc., etc.,.......welcome to mobocracy. Decent, hard-working, intelligent ppl donot have any representation in the government.... they are just victims of ignorant majority and their leaders.
This will continue until we have more educated, revolutionary citizenry....... situation will improve if the government gets out of the education sector. ......... I would say they should get out of our lives altogether. Of course we need birth right freedoms such as freedom of speech and expression. Democratic institutions like courts and law enforcement also need massive rehaul.....these things willl only happen only if citizens demand them.. This will take a few decades.
I apologize for rambling on..but your traffic quagmire is a part of this bigger mess I explained above

Delhi is among the most green city in India and has the widest roads in India, true that traffic problems are here but then it is not just Delhi, it is all across India. I would not take a second thought to mention that Traffic in Delhi is the best across India and the way Delhi is taking precautions n providing infrastructure, no other city has done that. Here are a few initiatives taken by Delhi:
Delhi has most numbers of fly overs in India to cut down stoppage time at red lights
Traffic jams at places like Ashram and ITO used to be because of pedestrians crossing roads, now Delhi has escalated pathways to cross and traffic has come under some control after these
Delhi Metro, thought still being constructed but did you notice the way traffic can come under control in the areas it serves?
be it DND bridge, Ridge Road, Lutyens Zone Delhi still has some of the best roads to drive on in India
Traffic policemen are scarce and it is not because of Shiela or Manmohan Singh but because of a fight that cities like Delhi face- Problem of distribution of power. Police in Delhi comes under Central government and Delhi sis ruled by State Government so has to be a conflict
Truth is we do have some traffic problem and let us look at the reasons why we have it..
Humoungous number of cars in Delhi, some people posses one car each for family members
Similer office timings- thode who travel to Gurgaon to work knows what am talking about
As SID Said - Wrong driving sense.. people dont realise that it is better to be late than never
If something has to change then it is the people... just by raising fingers to govt. or police we cant achieve much.. after all we are the ones who choose govt.

No doubt Delhi has more flyover then any other city but I am suprised to see the traffic Jam on flyovers like Ashram and so meny others why ? only because of unplanned flyovers more or less every flyover has a traffic jam either at starting point or ending point or the road after the flyover is so narrow. If we plan a flyover why we are unable to widend the road accourding to traffic size.
If we put all across automatic traffic watch system, automatic challing and deposit of fine in banks half of the problem solved within six months time.
The blueline busses or any other who so ever breaking the traffic rules are basically fearless of traffic police because they either paying monthly or they have some good contect in police.

Rightly said mam and also by all oher worthy members ...
the system is such that traffic cops specially concentrate on raising challans instead of thinking about traffic management ..
how common are the sites where traffic cops are hiding like monkeys and trying to catch their preys ... the priority of cops is clearly visible from their actions ...
just to site an example - we were driving to maurya at 2 am on thrusday night and there is no U turn .... then going pretty far we found a red light .. we just took the U trun as there was no traffic ... and the moment we did that same monkeys appeared from no where and u know the rest ...
we friends at that very moment thought that wouldnt it would be better for these guys to be on a road where accidents happen due to speeding trucks and other vechicles at nights ... but then thats moving traffic mostly on main roads .... so the challans wouldnt be possible and thus they choose secluded places like i mentioned ..
i also say that breaking a crime is no less a fault but with DP going digital ,, cant this work be transfered on automation like camera's and all ... that way the police can do things in a better and organised way .. this would also ensure less of corruption .. after all challans through post has been a sucess in delhi ...
