Rohtak, December 2
Former Haryana Chief Minister and sitting Congress MLA from Adampur Bhajan Lal announced the launch of a new political outfit at the janhit rally organised here today. In an apparent assertion of their revolt against the Congress leadership, Bhajan Lal and his MP son Kuldeep Bishnoi unveiled a board bearing the name “Haryana Janhit Congress (BL)” and an image of rising Sun before a huge gathering at the rally venue behind the new bus stand here.

Addressing the gathering, Bishnoi lambasted the present Congress regime in Haryana for its alleged failure in implementing the promises made to the people of the state. Terming Bhupinder Singh Hooda as the “most corrupt Chief Minister of the state”, Bishnoi accused him of indulging in “property-dealing” to favour big companies like Reliance Industries at the cost of farmers.

Visibly elated over the massive turnout and overwhelming response, especially from the youth, the firebrand suspended MP lashed out at UPA Chairperson and Congress President Sonia Gandhi. “She has no concern for your interests or sentiments…she took the undemocratic decision of making Hooda the Chief Minister against your wishes and aspirations,” he said, adding that the people of Haryana had brought the Congress to power to see Bhajan Lal as the Chief Minister.

As if making an election speech, he appealed to the people of the state to vote him to power. He promised to bring SYL water to the state on coming to power. “It was my father’s dream and I will realise it,” he asserted.

The disgruntled Congress leader, who was touted as the future Chief Minister of the state, further announced that “his government” would increase old-age pension to Rs 600, provide for free treatment to senior citizens at government hospitals, abolish house tax and “abiyana” and provide free plots to backward families.

In a bid to woo the women and Sikhs, Bishnoi also promised a pension scheme for women and an independent gurdwara committee for Haryana. He thanked the people for turning up in large numbers “despite government’s efforts to sabotage today’s rally”.

Bishnoi announced that he would resign from the Lok Sabha, but sought six months’ time, which he needed to strengthen his newly launched political outfit.

In his brief speech, former state Congress president Bhajan Lal, who was accompanied by his wife Jasma Devi, announced the launch of the new political outfit.

Rally conveners and former Haryana ministers Subhash Batra and Krishan Murti Hooda, besides staunch Bhajan supporter Dharam Pal Malik also addressed the gathering. Indri MLA Rakesh Kamboj, who was injured in yesterday’s police lathi charge on Bishnoi supporters at Karnal, was also present.

Jan Hit Congress nahi balki (Bha)jan hit congress. Most regional parties are nothing but proprietry firms run like family business. Even big political parties are no better and are becoming closely controlled affairs. Terrorism is nothing but reaction to this type of political supression of masses. Every political move becomes a family affair at some point of time.

Sir ji, totally impartial and balanced comment. Very well said.

It is a matter of concern that these people have invested so much money on this rally only. Where that money came from? kya bhonda pardarshan tha, saaf deekh gaya ki rajniti khel hai paise ka.

Logon ko ghar se utha kar laya gaya aur pralobhan tha DAROO aur KHANE ka .... they made food available to all there at the rally place. Log bhi kitne thalli hein ki jo koe bhi rally karta hai bhar dete hein unke pandalon ko .... it was a large gathering for this pita-putra. Some are saying that they have arranged people there by money and other stuff and other say its their popularity that brings such huge crowd. Kul mila kar ek aur front tyar ho gaya hai haryana mein.

Bhajan Lal party
New dimension in Haryana politics

HOW one rates the significance of the Haryana Janhit Congress (BL), floated by former Chief Minister Bhajan Lal and his MP son Kuldeep Bishnoi full two years after rebelling from the Congress, depends on which side of the political fence one happens to be. But this much is for sure that it has added a new dimension to the two-horse race fight which has been the norm all these years. Regional parties like the INLD have been giving stiff competition to the Congress in the state in election after election. The BJP, which is not much of a force in the state, has been siding with such regional outfits. The Bhajan Lal party, too, can garner sufficient votes to make things all the more difficult for the grand old Congress. Caste factor is something that cannot be wished away in Haryana. Let’s face it, Bhajan Lal enjoys considerable clout in his own community and can also attract sufficient anti-Jat votes. To that extent, his party can be a major player in the days to come.

[In the last Lok Sabha elections in 2004, the Congress swept the polls winning as many as nine of the 10 seats, with one going to the BJP. Even in the Assembly elections in 2005, it captured 67 of the 90 seats. It will find it very difficult to repeat the performance following the new development, because Bhajan Lal had a significant role to play in many of the victories. It is remarkable that Kuldeep Bishnoi, who is to be the president of the new party, has tendered his resignation from the Lok Sabha not with immediate effect but from June 1, 2008.

Dalit votes have been traditionally going to the Congress in the state all these years. Things will become even more interesting if the BSP gains ground in Haryana, as it has been doing in several neighbouring states. That will set the stage for a contest which will be truly multi-cornered. Which way the other son of Bhajan Lal, Deputy Chief Minister Chander Mohan, jumps will also be watched closely.

Staunch supporter leaves Bishnoi
Tribune News Service

Rohtak, December 5
Even though the newly announced Haryana Janhit Congress (BL) is yet to come into existence, internal bickering has started taking its toll on the group led by former Chief Minister Bhajan Lal and his MP son Kuldeep Bishnoi.

While the memories of a clash between two Rohtak-based former ministers are still fresh in the minds of people, another leader owing allegiance to the group has decided to part company with the disgruntled leader.

Local Congress leader Manjit Grewal, who has been a staunch supporter of the Bhajan faction for several years, announced his decision to leave Bishnoi here today. He said he would remain in the parent party, the Congress, along with his supporters.

Addressing a press conference here, Grewal alleged that youth supporters of Bishnoi, who had worked hard for the success of the Janhit rally, were sidelined during the rally itself.

“Youth leaders were not even allowed to speak at the rally,” he said, adding that Bishnoi was surrounded by sycophants and had become inaccessible even to his supporters.

Grewal was accompanied by his supporters.

He said contrary to the expectations of his supporters, Bishnoi did not tender his resignation from the Lok Sabha and indulged in the politics of pressure by showing a post-dated resignation letter. “Moreover, no sitting MLA or heavyweight leader joined the Bhajan party at the rally, which shows the hollowness of their tall claims,” asserted Grewal.
