Dear Honorable Members,

I don't even know if I am the right person to initiate this post. However, I learned one thing in my military career: "A good officer should not be scared of any thing, not even a new idea." The purpose of this post is truely based on this belief.

I attended the Annual General Body meeting of the North American Jat Charity yesterday. It is an excellent organization and doing a great service to the community for past 13 years now. Many members of the Jat community have benefitted by this organization, and many more will in future. What does this organization do? Kindly visit the website of this organization "najcharities.com", and you would know the facts and figures, the intent and resolve. The members of this organization are highly dedicated, respected people of our community. This group of people came in early 70s to US and have worked very hard to achieve great success in their respective field. They are determined people to give back to the community.

What is the problem? One of the issue that comes up for the discussion every time is about the deserving candidates. This organization provides scholarships to the deserving candidates of Jat Community in India for higher education. The organization wants to help brilliant/hard working students of the community whose parents can't support them for higher education. The problems are as under:
1. We don't get complete applications.
2. We don't get right candidates to support.
3. Some people who can manage the cost of education are also applying for this help, thereby denying the chance to the more deserving one.
........ and there are many more, all from the receiving end.

What We as Members of Jat Land can do?

Those in US
1. Become member of this organization.
2. Contribute your little help to help the community's young and aspiring generation.
3. Call atleast another 5 Jat Community members in your area and ask them to become members and do the same.

Those in India:

1. Spread the word in your villages and schools about this organization.
2. Tell the young boys and girls, that if they can work hard, money would not be a problem to achieve the higher education. So work hard.
3. Inform this organization if you know any deserving candidate.

Now the few words about the HEADING OF THIS POST:

USE IT: We can use this facility to help the community.
MISUSE IT: We can misuse this facility by promoting the non deserving candidates to get the help, while deserving still suffer.
ABUSE IT: Once given the help from this organization we don't work hard in our field to achieve the success that this organization expects from them. Also if those individuals don't support atleast one Jat Kid to achieve higher education, I would say it is being abused.

MY REQUEST TO YOU ALL:

Please make a concerted effort to help the community and help the needy children of the community. We are Jats, and one of the most important value that we have is being HONEST. Lets honestly take a pledge today to help our community.

I thank you all in advance. I hope you will help. I am confident, together we can do it. So, lets keep going.

Tavathia Sir,

I hope this facility is going to be 'used' and not 'misused' or 'abused'. I would definitely make the needies aware of najcharities.com (should I come across any).

Thank you so much.

Regards,
Sumit

Tavathia Sahab,

Thanks for posting the information. I have few suggestions;

1. NAJC may like to have an Indian Chaptor/ Field team of few members.
2. This team may like to held anual or bianual camps at different locations to look for talented young Jat boys/ girls who need support
3. Same team may follow up the proper utilisation of grant given.
4. Alternatively, JAJC may identify willing persons responsible for various geographical areas to coordinate all its activities in field.

I stongly feel that NAJC has to have field workers with well asigned mission.

Rajendra Kumar

Dear Members,

Thanks a lot for your encouragement and support for the community in general and NAJC in particular.

Dr. Rajendra Kumar Ji,

Your suggestions are very valuable and I shall convey them to the General Body and the management of the NAJC. While we all are members, we do have a board of trustees (having 5 of them), a scholarship committee and the President and the Treasurer. The names of all the officials should be available on the site though, but I will mentions some of them here:
1. President: Shri Ram Sarup Arya Ji. He runs a wonderful school at village Kaliraman in Hissar District. It may be a good idea for some of the community people back home to visit this school. Mr. Arya is not only funding this school, but also has given a lot of resources to this school in terms of land etc.
2. Chairman Scholarship Committee: Dr. Jagbir Singh Dhaka. He is running a school for a long time now in village Rathora in Baghpat District. This is another school that one would like to visit and see. Being close to your place it may be an easy drive for you upto this school.
There are many more institutions those are being supported by the NRI community living in NJ area of US. I am sure there must be many more that I may not be aware of, those are being helped by people living aborad.

We did discuss the issue of having a chapter in India, but there are legal issues involved and hence the idea was dropped. It is a community service that we are trying to do, and if some one is volunteering in India to help the community, we would be very happy to speak to them and work with them.

The basic idea is to give help to the needy hard working people of the community to achieve academic excellence, so that they can serve the community and the nation better in years to come. All that we are looking for is that the people know about this facility in rural and far flung areas and people don't misuse this resource.

I once again thank all the members for their encouragement and support. As I had said earlier: together we can achieve impossible.

Dear Members,

The correct website address is www.najatcharities.org (http://www.najatcharities.org)

Kindly tell the community members to visit this site. It also has all the requirements that a student need to apply for financial help to pursue his/her education.

Dear Jatland Members,

This is the email I have received from Ms. Anu Tomar, who is participating in shooting championship at International Level. She comes from I think Baghpat District of U.P.

The NAJC essentially supports the education institutions, and students for academic excellence, however individual members, either individually or collectively do support other upcoming people of the community.

The individual members of NAJC contributed a little to help her participate in this competition. We are proud of her achievements.

Here is the email received from her.

Namaste Sir, How r all of u? I HOPE U ALL R HAPPY AND HEALTHY.I HEARTLY THANKFUL TO """NAJC""". WHO GAVE ME A CHANCE I M PROVE MYSELF. NOW SIR I M TELLING ABOUT MY " ASIAN SHOOTING CHAMPIONSHIP RESULT" I WON THE ONE GOLD MEDAL AND ONE SILVER MEDAL".

Dear Col. Tavathia...Sir I still remember meeting all you gud people for a Volleyball match last year....

Anyway coming straight at the problems and issues facing by the committee.....here is my take..

Not getting enough applications is a marketing problem which can be taken care of by contacting a few agencies....or you can also check out with the respective scores of the applicants by asking for a notorised copies of their scores for various courses...
Now I know one such agency who conducts tests similar to GRE, GMAT etc in delhi, who help students find universities and to study in Europe with scholarships amounting upto 2000 Euros a month....check it out..www.aces.ms
now these people are not so old...prety recent...they can help.......I know them personally

similarly checking the credentials of students who can afford to study paying the expenses own their own....but still asking for scholarships can be checked by the educational back ground and the addmission letter from the respective universities in US......becoz anyway affording the cost of education in US is not a easy part for parents even if they are financially sound....

and since this is just the beginning you can alwayz market your self on similar portals or internet marketing the website using SEO techniques...

reaching the ground level where we have smart and intelligent students who want to study abroad but dont know yet about the available scholarships....is again to be taken care by spreading the word initially thru various educational institutes....universities in Haryana, Rajasthan and UP.

I suppose we have at least one lecturer in each university who can take care of the spreading the awareness within that university..which can be initially done by Posters or documents on notice boards......that contact this person to find out for scholarships to study in US.

I hope your efforts will be fruitful with time.

you can also request moderators to make this thread sticky.......its indeed a important and vital initiative..still unknown to may here

Dear Mr. Dahiya,

Thanks a lot for taking your time off and giving out some valuable suggestions.

The only problem is that we are not looking to support students at this time for education in foreign countries. What we are trying to do is to help the bright students of the community back home, who can't afford the higher education for want of financial resources.

I no where mentioned anything about foreign students......I said I know people who check academic credentials of students and help them for admissions in EU.....So, you can either act in a similar way...or there credentials can be checked.
and yeah even I was talking about students in India who cannot afford.

Dear Mr. Dahiya,

Thanks a lot for correcting.

The Charity however at this time is not likely to use funds to veryfy credentials. If you have a look at the financial statement of the charity, it has spent just about $1100/= on administrative expenses, since inception about 13 years ago. That is less than $ 100/- per year. This expense has been mainly on postages.

We want to give every penny that we raise here for helping the community students for higher education.

It is with this belief that I had posted this thread. Many members of this organization are renowend professors at US universities for over 3 to 4 decades now. I am sure they would know about some of these institutions to verify the details. Actually educational achievements can be verified much easily than the economic credentials specially in our country where paying taxes is not streamlined as yet.

I was able to read applications where the land holding of student's father/'family increased or decreased dramatically with in a year. I am sure that would be disturbing for many of us.
