Hi Friends,

I find it quiet strange that when one records his voice and listens to it, then he finds that its some one else voice...
...I also feel the same way...It seems that someone else is speaking on my behalf...almost completely different...and more surprising is that others find that its my voice and only and recognise it easily...

Although its a common phenomena...is there some one who dont feel the same way...

Now...what may be the probable explaination for it...and is there any way out one can hear his own recorded voice and recognise it(of course)...

Besides sound coming to ear after being conducted through air, there's an alternate route of sound transmission to the inner ear also, which is called bone conduction. In this case, sounds produce vibrations in the bones of the skull that stimulate the inner ear directly. The sound produced inside the mouth...like dentist's drill, is transmitted largely by bone conduction. Own voice is also affected by bone conduction, and what we hear ourself is a combination of air conducted and bone conducted voice; whereas other people hear our voice conducted through air only. Thats why the playback of our own voice sounds less familiar to us than others.
