Hi all,
This is my humble request to JatLand Intellegentia to draw some light on

...if one has to choose a career in Engineering then which one is better

B-Tech (Biotechnology) or B-Tech(Engineering Branches, IT CS etc)...

specially for female candidates...

disregard of the facts that we know one must opt for a path of one's intrest...& Opportunities are immense in both...depends on one's capabilities & repo of instt which he/she opted....As we know it well...

...Even then on two equal surfaces which one you think is a choice which makes some sense in long term keeping in view one's future & family perspectives...specially for female candidates...

But my question is what after Bachelor's , what is the ultimate aim? I'm asking this because if the goal is to get a decent job in some company after Bachelors or stick to teaching etc then Biotech would be fine BUT if the aspirations are beyond that (academics n research or progress n promotions in the companies) then I must warn you Biotech would be very demanding (first hand experience here:)). She should be ready to spend long hours at work and also go for doctoral degree. Well, certainly lil hard (moreso for a female candidate) but then if interest lies there only and you are dedicated then my "go ahead".

From what I see, Software field is the ideal field for women. And that too
QA. It allows them considerable freedom to work from home, part time and
at flexible hours.

I think it may be desirable to avoid lab work...something that probably
becomes necessary in Biotechnology...possibly with the exception of
Bioinformatics. Lab aaley unh bhi baans maare jaan saen sari haan.

I think BTech in Elect. Eng/CS allows for a broad range of careers...
I have seen some women switch from Software Development to QA to
Technial Writers etc...saari thaath kar ri saen...

Yeah true...compensating for work hours spent on Jatland is bound to
take its toll. :D

Waise just to add to what I mentioned earlier...a BTech degree can be
seen as a starting point. Followup degrees such as a PhD, MBA or LLB
all open up pretty good career options...but then the balance of life/work
would be a challenge.

I'd go back to the Software QA sort of work as the ideal mix for a woman
who wants to work yet raise a family....

Baaki nothing beats finding a rich husband I guess.

Actually this if for my younger sister.

She is preparing for Medical Entrance Examination since 3 years...but couldn't make it to get admission for MBBS...

& we don't have enough money to spend i.e. 10/20 lakhs to get admission in pvt college for BDS MBBS...like many here...

Engineering would be a compromising career for her but she is intelligent enough to make it to some good college of engineering...

that's why I asked...because ANYHOW this year we have to get her the admission to some good college...ANYHOW

I thought Biotech would be someway near to medical & chemical research for her.

Actually female candidates have to go through so many compromises li life usually...but we don't want her to compromise with her career...
...aur phir shaadi ka bhi to sochna hai...

As she would have been taken break between 10+2 & B-Tech ...so I think IT companies which come for campus placements don't consider such candidate with break between 10+2 & B-Tech...

Is it applicable to most of the companies or still there are chances for candidates having year breaks in study...obviously one must be intelligent enough to match up with the academic requirements

...anyway let'e see what happens...

Thanx to you from deepest of my heart to all...
