A warm hug to all my jat Brothers and sisters.

We have a history of nearly five thousand years that make us proud. Like every clan or a sect has identified themselves to the world with an emblem, it would be a great idea for the present generation in co-ordination with the old to come up with a symbol for the entire jat brotherhood. It would present us on a ground to identify each other through that sacred emblem, which should comprise of our ethics, righteousness and brotherhood.
It is an appeal to all Jat brothers to come up with innovative yet meaningful symbol that becomes our pride and a source to relate to each other.

Humble regards,
Sumit Khatri

Dear Sumit,

Please see this thread which I had started in Dec 2005. But like most other relevant threads, even this died its natural death.

http://www.jatland.com/forums/showthread.php?t=11006

However, this is what I had felt and still believe strongly in:

(13 Dec 2005) "Most communities in the world have something common to identify with. All religions have a particular symbol that helps people rally behind it. Even the different sects of Hinduism: Buddhists, Jainis & Sikhs have been succesful in charting their own path by breaking away from main stream Hinduism and are having their own symbols. I think Guru Nanak Dev Ji was a very smart and far sighted thinker and the Tenth Guru, Guru Govind Singh Ji realised that in order to optimise the communities strength he needed to do something different. That's why you had the Guru declare "Guru Manyo Granth" and the five symbols of Sikhism.

Even the Moslems all over the world identify themselves with the Holy Koran and nothing else. There is some problem with the Shias though but they too rally behind the Holy Koran.

I feel we as a community lack a common symbol. This point was briefly touched upon during the Second Mumbai Jat Meet. I feel that we JATS should have such a symbol so that the whole community can rally behind and unite together. The symbol could be a place. The Sikhs have their Gurudwaras but we don't have anything. JATS hardly go to a Mandir and it is actually hilarious to see a JAT praying. He just can't do so because we weren't brought up like that. Though Arya Samaj Movement did a lot of good but still it did not leave us with that 'One Symbol', to which we could be subservient.

Do the members feel that we should have a symbol like that or is it OK to be the way it is, each one to his own.

This is a very serious topic and I would request members to please give their considered opinion after taking into account all aspects. Let us see what we feel.

(15 Dec 2005)Thanks for the views. I feel I have not been able to explain the real meaning of ‘Symbol’ or may be members misunderstood. Let me give an example or two to make myself clearer.

We all know the following Satya Sai Baba of Puttuparti attracts worldwide. How it happened? Why was he able to attract even Presidents & PMs towards his ‘Sangathan’? Has he not used the reverence he attracts or commands for the betterment of humanity? (By the way I am no Sai Bhakth). But one thing that he has achieved is ‘Networking’ and those of you who are in the know will agree that being a Sai follower has tremendous advantages.

Then see the Jainis. They all have only few Jain Mandirs where every Jain must visit or visits regularly. They all contribute towards common causes and are one of the richest communities.

The Dalits have their Ambedkar.

See the Refugees. They are these ‘Jai Mata Di’ walas. They identify themselves with that Goddess. Say ‘Jai Mata Di’ and a refugee will give you instant discount.

May be by a JAT Symbol I meant ‘Symbolism’. Like you have the Moslems revering Mecca. They don’t raise any objections to the teaching of the Prophet.

It was this symbolism that I meant. Because we JATS hardly believe in anything else except our own selves or reprogramming the TAI. An identity card can’t be a symbol to which we can identify with. We need something that is capable of uniting all JATS together without the fear of being exploited. May be a place that was important to us in the past or may be some ‘Granth’ or ‘Book’. The sole aim: to unite us as a community. I don’t believe that by making the community stronger we would be making the nation weaker.

May be some place where a JAT can bow in submission. I know there is no place like that but is there a need? Is it possible?"

Warm regards,

JS Malik

The symbol is very much required for Jats b/s we are still a divided lot with in a community, which has been exploited by other people and politicians in keeping us divided. We have to be united to keep our race pure other wise there is possibility of getting diluted or wiped off from the face of the earth. The two prominent personalities that all Jats can co-relate them selfs are Swami Dayanand Sarswati or sir Chotu Ram, we have to organize a joint gatherings on these persons birthdays to call upon all Jats to be one. This will help in identifying oneself to these days and later on they can be declare as closed holidays to generate public interest. A beginning has to be made as the saying goes better late than never.

Sorry to say but it would have been nice if you have put your thoughts instead of making fun of others.

But jo baat aap kahe rahe ho ki airport aur blah blah ... that have significance.

So, This would have helped if we have some place/god/temple/person where all are of same opinion and can meet regularly. This will definatly improve the cooperation among jats. Here we are talking about increase in harmony and cooperation among jats and not that we will use it to disgrace others but will work only for our upliftment.

Par Jagmohan ji aisa lagta hai ki these things worked in earlier centuries and for religions but not for castes. That time there was a mass support. Now a days due to the lifestyle the castes ... religions type boundries are melting down .... so dont think it would be possible to have such thing in future.

You have got it all wrong. I think you are ready to celebrate the birthdays of all tom, dick & harry whom you do not believe in but get pissed of on learning the demand of Jats asking for a special day to be remembered by all . Also the thread is for Jats symbol, we are aware that if Hindu Jats can wear turban, keep beards and wear kada to be known as Jat Sikh, Then why not non Sikhs. I do not want that we should roam around the world like beggars to get identified at railway stations, airports or bus stands. If you have read it correctly I purposely, did not added any stupid politician in my list of Jat leaders. I think you are not aware about the great leader Sir Chotu Ram was, he was the CM of United Punjab before 1947.

I am against declaring Holiday for anyone as to me its a loss of one day of the productivity. I do not think leaders like Chotu Ram or Charan Singh could have advocated the same. In India we already have so many holidays that to add more will be an overkill. I would definitely appreciate if their birthdays are celebrated as some symbolic day but that too won't hep either. As you know Kisan Diwas is celebrated on Charan Singh's anniversary but I do not think even 5% of random population knows that (excluding Jats and farmer community of Northern India from this). Everybody knows V-Day but not what they should.

You have got it all wrong. I think you are ready to celebrate the birthdays of all tom, dick & harry whom you do not believe in but get pissed of on learning the demand of Jats asking for a special day to be remembered by all . Bhai, my intention was not to make fun of our esteemed leaders but I was a bit sarcastic on Holiday thingy. That too because in our country we already have several on birth annivarsaries like for M. Gandhi (though I do not mind that), Ambedkar, Ravi das. I may have missed some too. Also we already have a big list of holidays due to festivals and Jayantis, that to add more to this might not be good. Log ek din kaam na kare sirf isliye ki kisi mahapurush ne us din janam liye that, yeh theek nahi hai, kyunki list is endless. You have Swami Vivekanand, Dayanand, Tagore, Chandar Sekhar, Laxmibai, Shivaji, Prithiviraj chahuhan, Mother Teresa, and so on.

Now coming on to Symbol in today's age. In current time a synbol is only going to prove negative. Already people do not have very good opinion about jats and if non-jats will see a symbol then that would make them wary. unhe lagega ki yo to hamme dikha raha ki main jat hoon. This could lead to further alienation whereas today the time demands that jats should develop the mixing abilities with non jats.

Regular get together of jats will be much more helpful then this particular suggestion. This is what I feel but carry on with discussion till a conclusion is reached either way.

We can never compare ourselves with sardars, they go out of the way to help a person of their kaum. That jajbaat is missing in jats everywhere (rural or cities). Jats in general do not help other jats easily. On the other hand they get jealous and try to pull down the others. bhaanji maarne mei sabte aage reh.

Sorry to say but it would have been nice if you have put your thoughts instead of making fun of others.

But jo baat aap kahe rahe ho ki airport aur blah blah ... that have significance.

Well, I am a student from Rohtak and I joined this site recently.

I want to put my views on Jat symbol.

I dont know if any major community within Hindus that uses symbol for them.
So why is its need felt so much. But such a thing can have many serious consequences.
