Bollywood comes to Miami!!!

So, some of you who actually read about where our stars, Film producers and productions teams head out to for all kind of new ventures- would know that the movie 'Dostana' (not the old Amitabh Bachchan, Shatrughan Sinha starrer) but a new Abhishek Bachchan/John Abraham/Priyanka Chopra/Shilpa Shetty starrer is being filmed in Miami these days and even as we speak…

Now, here are some plus points to the movie that I think we are seeing more and more of- rather than that ol' run of the mill, a movie-set-in-India and for only the songs-you-are-transported-to places like Switzerland, South-Africa, US etc. etc. this one is supposedly actually set completely in Miami (or the South Beach area in particular) the idea being I guess that the main leads are being portrayed living and working (and of course romancing) in this one of the most glamourous cities of America… ;)

Anyways, so where am I heading with all this?

Well, simply to share the fact that yours truly had the pleasure of being physically there and enjoying the filming of some of the scenes (song sequences mostly) at key locations around here in Downtown Miami and next to the water; the area where I work and so was easily able to walk over to the sets and catch some the action going on there…

And just so that you all can also kind of share in with those moments, here are some pictures of the movie sets that you can scan thru.

Yeah, I know, I know... just the pictures of the sets wouldn't do... They need to have some stars in them! You need some action!
So okay, try these then....

Abhishek and Shilpa doing a song sequence where apparently the female star is trying the wooing tactics on the male lead!
(Can you believe the number of production people, with their lights, props and camera and stuff, not to mention the dance director shouting her prompts.... ALL breathing down their necks? Gosh, sure can't be much pressure performing infront of them! :rolleyes:)

Okay, then let me try these...
This one here now is Abhishek getting ready for his part of the sequence, and one can see all the extras waiting around for this Bollywood dude to do this thing and so that they can do theirs (be the nice backdrops) and get paid and go home! :rolleyes:

Well, as these last pictures quite amply suggest; here is my pet peeve about this whole scenario, especially since I was there myself watching the proceedings (and goes back to the question about having these cheerleaders aka just in the ambiance of American Basketball and the football games style, but in a place like India, and Indian Cricket!) same begs the question: why, oh why the hell do we project such an image to Indian moviegoers? Why is the need by the film producers to project an image which is neccessarily not even true for America or the Americans?
This whole bikini-clad skimpily dressed white females cavorting under the sun at all times!?!

Take a look at these some more pictures of the song sequence being filmed around Abhishek; he is supposed to walk and sing the song while these nymphets roller blade around him!

The funny thing is that this was at a location of a famous park surrounded by offices, commercial and hotels next to the water in Downtown Miami and the fact that one never finds such a scene on regular days, (goes to say what a wrong picture it is) and so of course there were a lot of bemused gora’s standing to watch this scenario as they were themselves more interested in the extras than the fact that it was some (Bollywood) movie being filmed! LOL…

Anyways, I gotta tell ya; being one who had never seen any film sets before, it was quite interesting to see the dance choreographer (and the director) shouting on a microphone above the song being played on a system to Mr. Junior Bachchan and those gori extras, (“now move infront of him!…Abhi keep walking!… Turn slightly to the right!…. Smile you girls!!!... etc. etc.) all the while the music was still blaring on…
and they would go on to do that retake about 10times for a 1 minute sequence, till they got everything right!

Here’s another sequence of Shilpa being tutored by the dance director (the lady in white tights or something ;) along with her helpers, so that Ms. Shetty can then go on and do the final retakes. (You can see a guy helper/extra sitting in that bottom left picture in place of Abhi, while Shipa practices around him… only so that the male actor can just come on when the final takes are ready!)

Very interesting process must say.

The cool thing was that the stars being in a foreign location where they were not known by anyone (other than us ogling desis!) and were absolutely very much relaxed, smiling and enjoying the great Miami weather and water and beach, and were more than happy to give out autographs and have pictures taken with them and so on!…

All in all a good first time experience with movies and movie making process… and hope you enjoyed as much as me looking at these pictures and were able to make some sense as to what could have been happening here at that time...
(Now all you have to do is once the movie comes out, do try and watch the background 'reel' carefullyand maybe you can even spot a Jat guy among the crowd.... hahahaha!) ;):rolleyes::D

It isnt just that Bollywood has gone to Miami, Miami has also flown in to India.

Recently Wyclef Jean and AB along with Aadesh Srivastava have recorded a Rap album - Bollywood meets Hollywood, and Wyclef was in India a few days back where in he launched Moto U9 in Bangalore with Ms. India World, Parvathy Omanakuttam

What Next?

This fusion song would be launched in june first week on new Moto phone as AB and Wyclef both are Moto brand ambassadors.
