Dear friends,
For quite some time I have this idea on income tax. As we all know, a very large number of rich people hardly pay any income tax and where as for all the salaried class tax is deducted at source. Had I been the finace minister of India, I would make sure that;
Govt. charge minimum amount from every Indian adult irrespective of his/ her income. Those who calim that they do not have taxable income, will be given the choice of contributing in terms of the work on public projects. Like minimum tax bracket every such person should be charged with same percentage of his time every year for public work in case he/ she has no income. I am sure that a rich shopkeeper who pays no tax and when he has to clean the streets of the twon under the supervision of a Municipal sanitary inspector, he will surely cough out the income tax.
I strongly feel that this proposal is implementable and will go a long way in widening the tax bracket.
