Ram Ram,

Communities who are good in numbers abroad are doing well as they have good financial powers and money to spend on their communities well being. In Jalandhar you will find villages where each family has atleast one person abroad. That improved their conditions a lot.

In my opinion the greatest service to our community could be to provide them good oppurtunities to work abroad. We can see the effect of that visible on entire community in a very short duration.

A person who spends few years abroad definetely have some impact on his close relatives and friends. This has a ripple effect on persons associated.

A very good example of this is sikh community. Many of them are based in foreign countries and doing very good for their community.

Something in that direction need to be dome from our side too.

Cheers.

Vijay,
Ur observation is true. Sikhs communities have improved their lot at a faster rate by going abroad and so have communities in Gujarat and Kerala. U can also add andhra to list now.

The more important point is that they are very hard working. They work hard to be entrepreneurs and/or work hard to excel in academics. Even those who did not go abroad are doing well in these comunities. Going abroad only accelerated their progress.

But, I am not sure if this is true today and will continue in future. The developed countries are getting xenophobic creating more hurdles for new immigrants and is not so benevolent nowadays. The rate of growth of economy is also stagnant. On the other hand Asian economies are doing good and the west is looking east now to fuel their growth. If China and India shuts down today, the west will go downhill rapidly. Its the right time to be India today. The only thing we have to do is change our thinking and be more confident of ourselves. It’s a huge advantage to be in India and understand the Indian system. If you can understand the world economy correctly and willing to take risks and initiative you will be far better off in India.

Historically west has provided opportunities and equal access to these opportunities which led to the dramatic changes u see in NRI communities. I believe now India is on the same path and the competition will only get stronger in days to come. It will be our attitude and initiative, which will decide our future and not going abroad. A stint in west will always help us in broadening our thinking and our range of understanding, but it’s not THE PANACEA.

take care,
