Hello everyone,
I seem to have got myself into a big trouble related to food.
I am what they call a pure vegetarian, I do not even eat egg unless its an ingredient in cake and all.
Cheese is a very big pert of my diet, and I eat all kinds of cheeses and love eating cheese, but today someone told me that the making of cheese involves using a substance called Rennet aka Renin, and this substance is supposedly extracted from the newly born calves' fourth stomach.
Thus, now I am in big dilemma, I have found out that there are Rennet free cheeses available, but what about everything else, say pasta and pasta sauce, or pizza I mean I just cant think of eating anything. I am very confused, I would really appreciate if any other fellow vegetarian can help in this situation and also any biologist or anyone who knows about this substance.
Thank you very much.

Amit,

As you said you have no problem with the egg in cake, cookies etc. So your vegetariasm is not due to religion or some other fundamental reason. It's just food habbit/preference.

On the same line, you might do away with need to worry about the 'non-veggi' stuff used in cheese preparation.

I am also pure veggi, but care little about such details!

Hi Amit,

When you buy any kind of cheese or pizza (even cakes or biscuits), look for the Vegetarian sign. By law, food producers can't just put vegetarian sign on something which has any kind of non-veg nonsense in it. So look for the green 'V' sign and you will be fine. This is what I do since I am pure vegetarian too.
