Lamba Sahib

Thanks I have posted this with your permision to teh Jat history list.

It deserves wider circulation.

This is important part of our history,a nd it is good that the mainstream media has taken note.

Mohan is wrong on many issues. The usual casteist flavour.

Mohan is also a Mogyal name, I think, like V N Datta and Nonica Datta

But Ravi Bhai,
We do not care about this Mohan, but what about these few incidents which happened (Really) happened) in last 2-3 years, where Khaps destryed few well sattled families. Why they did not object to it before merriage.

Ranvir I am in complete agreement with you.

My comments were related to the Historical aspects of the Sarv Khap.

also that one cannot take a single incident to smear the entire Institution.

It lost its power after 1857, and never regained it.

the 1950 meeting tried, but the legal authority had been lost.

Any system is as good as people who run it. It is not the failure of Khap system but that of society in general with it's declining ethical standards. The solution lies not in changing systems from time to time but making the existing systems work better and improve their structure. Institutions come and go with time and they all have their life cycles and if they do not change with time they lose relevance. Some of them survive due to their flexiblity and endurance like Hindu Religion. Some of the judgements passed by Panchayats now a days are so ridiculous that no rational human being would agree with them. Take the example of the married couple with a child who were asked to divorce because Panchayat made that judgement. How ridiculous does it have to get before society rejects it out right. Ours is a tolerant society which has it's merits and demerits. Demerit being that interest groups tend to take advantage of it. Let us face the truth and acknowledge that our society is losing respect for law and order among other things and it will have it's natural consequences of wide spread anarchism which in turn will make future society realise what they have lost and one day the tide may turn back to good old fashioned values of honesty and integrity. In the mean time just grit your teeth and do what you can but remember the majority is forking towards path of instant happiness whether they find it or not but will certainly trample you over if you dare to cross them.

Well put, and as ranvir said,

If someone had to object the time was before the marriage.

We must move forward, which is why education awareness, liberation of our women, and an awareness our rich past are all very important
