SPECIAL FOCUS ON ROHTAK
PGIMS to carry out advanced medical tests soon
Vipin Sharma
Rohtak, May 1
There is a good news for the poor patients of the state who were forced to go to Delhi for certain advanced medical tests or fleeced by various diagnostic labs located in their towns.
A sample collection centre of a US-based group, U.S. Dahiya International Inc. is likely to start the working of medical testing at Pt B D Sharma Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences soon as per the agreement reached between the company and the Haryana Government in December last.
Dr Rajvir Dahiya, Chief Executive Officer of the company is reportedly a former student of the institute. He claimed that the testing methods prevalent in the USA, would be transferred to Haryana and the collection centre would be unique in terms of the latest technology.
As per the memorandum of understanding, samples from the patients admitted to the PGIMS would be collected and tested at a highly advanced laboratory at Faridabad. The company would make arrangements for picking up the samples and provide results within a week.
It would not only save precious time and money of the patients but also relieve them of the trouble of visiting Delhi for the same. Initially, only tests for cancer would be carried out to be followed by other tests. The accuracy, sensitivity and reliability of all tests would be controlled by standards prevailing in the USA, the sources said.
According to PGIMS sources, the company had proposed much cheaper rates as compared to those prevalent in the local market. Moreover, the sources said the company would provide 20 per cent concession on these rates. For example, an amount of nearly Rs 600 is charged by various diagnostic labs for conducting ‘Alfa Feoto Protein’ test while the US-based company has mentioned a fee of Rs 300 to be charged for the same test. Besides, a discount of 20 per cent (Rs 60) would also be given to the patients.
Certain tests would be conducted free of cost for the poor patients as per the provisions made in the agreement.
Dr (Maj Gen) Virender Singh Poonia, Director of the PGIMS claimed that the move would check the malpractice of charging hefty amounts as fee for conducting different advanced tests by the private labs.
He said the government would have to spend several crores to establish a laboratory for conducting such advanced tests at the PGI.
He said the government had reached an agreement with this company to provide the latest facilities to the patients till the institute itself set up its laboratory.
It is also learnt that the said company will ultimately provide similar facilities at all the district headquarters of the state.

I am Rajvir Dahiya. I am greatful to all of you for your encouraging comments. When we were children, we did not have anyone to get guidance, advise or lean on because there was nobody to direct us since we all came from a small town where education is limited. Now time has come to pay back to that village we belong to where hudreds of small children are in the same situation where we were long time ago. We all must contribute to that society through guidance, advise and any kind of help and I am sure that will make everyone very happy. In my opinion, education is very dear to my heart because this is the one way to rise in life, and only weapon to conquer the world because we have examples of Japan and USA where education made these countries so powerful in the world. Apart from my contribution to Medical diagnosis center that we have in almost all civil hospitals of our State of Haryana where most of the medical tests are done either free for poor patients or very small charges to all patients, I have been participating in Cash Prize distribution to school children from villages for the last 14 years. This year, our convocation will be held on December 18th, 2004 where we will distribute cash prizes to poor and bright students from 45 different villages. About 500 cash prizes will be distributed to encourage and finacially help those children. I would like to invite all of you to participate in this convocation because 45 villages and schools will gather together and
help these children. There will be lots of food and drinks made by the villagers. Our honorable Chief Minister will be our chief guest of this convocation. Please visit my website for more information about my work

Dear Dr. Dahiya:
What a marvelous example you are indeed to our community. With your academic excellence and exemplary scientific achievements you have not only made us proud but also catapulted our prominence to the international stage. What makes you so very special in the eyes of the community and commands respect and accolade is the magnanimity with which you have humbly acknowledged yourself as a member of the community. Your acknowledgment proves that money plays a very small part in the development of a noble personality. There are a lot of shallow people in this world with much, much less credit to their name but rarely do they come down from their high horse of pride. I now know why someone may have coined the phrase, “It is nice to be important, but it is important to be nice.” Thank you so much especially for acknowledging our admiration of you. Next time your scientific meetings bring you to Bethesda, please remember that a humble Jat family will be honored to meet you.

While I am sure Dr. Dahiya needs no praise, I'd like to just say that Dr. Dahiya is indeed a great asset to our community. He is well known to seek out and provide all his help and support for our community members.
His academic success, his benevolent nature,
and absolute down to earth Jatness are delightfully heartening. His efforts here in US as well as back home in Haryana are commendable.
He is both business savvy and politically savvy
Way to go Dr. Dahiya ! We are proud of you !

Blessed are those whose hearts are pure
Noble deeds they do and humility they allure
With a mission in sight busy they remain
Genuine they are and hypocrisy they disdain
Higher they go and their roots they never forget
Just by paying back to community more pleasure they get
Keep up the good work that you have started
Only then we are remembered after we have departed
