There is no such thing as an “ideal Jat!” What one can aspire to be is to become an ideal human being before anything else. Idealism is a concept that exists in the imagination only; it is a standard or principle or a belief in and pursuit of perfection as an attainable goal. However, human mind has the imperfections and weaknesses of a human being rather than a machine or divine being!
Traditionally, a Jat is a persona, a phoenix a myth that has been created by his inherent traits as warrior, and farmer. Temperamentally the favorable Jat pride and Jat stubbornness never yields to anything, supporting the claim of him being a hard working, strong willed individual.
As to “what profession is ideal?” I am sure there are as many schools of thoughts as there are minds! What is perfect for one may not be the definition of perfection for another. With the advent of education Jats are fast becoming part of everyday life, with high visibility in every arena. It is inevitable that they are just as akin or apt as anyone else to the possibilities and opportunities that exist around them, be they good or bad, desirable or forbidden. Our debacle over Mallika’s choice of profession has already had umpteen reactions, each valid with its assertion and merit. I have come to an understanding that we must respect all views. However, I am not sure if further discussion of this topic is headed in a desirable direction…

Dear All,
As Sujata has said idealism is in our imagination only. Jats are no different from other human beings which is a combination of some good and some bad. Every one of us is capable of being a good person or bad person depending on our own philosophy of life. Therefore the best one can do is try and be a good human being. Traditionally Jats have been living in villages and communities which provided a healthy environment for personal growth and spiritual development. Checks and balances were built in within our culrure e.g. thinking about the interest of the whole family before an individual's interest or liking and disliking. However that is all changing rapidly due to urbanisation and break up of larger cohesive communities. Materialism being the focal point community interest and even interest of greater family unit has taken back seat. As a result shrinkage in family size. In the absence of self regulation some times people do adopt the mob mentality and behave irresponsibly. Which only indicates lack of self esteem and self confidence or outright disregard for others welfare. In this kind of environment idealism can be a useful tool for guiding individuals in day to day life. Idealism is like stars which we can not quite reach but can help us navigate the life clear from rocks of human degradation. Apparently idealism is some how related to innocence of youth and as people mature that innocence is lost to practical constraints and compromises one has to make to survive in life. Idealism teaches us where to compromise and where not to. There is always a price to be paid for our convictions and idealism and we can learn from others mistakes as we don't live long enough to make all the mistakes ourselves. We can not choose a lot of things but certainly can choose to live by our principles and be prepared to pay the price for them as is the law of nature. It is natural to slip on to slippery paths but takes a lot of courage to stay upright or to rise after one has tripped innocently. That is where Jat stubbornness can be useful. Jats by nature have a big heart which is essential qualification for a good human being. Therefore if we could emulate our forefathers and be good human beings there should be little difficulty in living with our ideals. Ideal Jat is a good human being and a broadminded person.

Thanks Dhir ji and Budh ji and to all those Jats who make this site an interesting place to visit.
Now let us see where does this idealism fit into our daily lives. Please see the next posting titled "Secret of Happiness"
