Historical and Cultural Links
India is the birth place of civilization. Vedas are divine knowledge.
The ancient Vedic Society developed in India and reached supreme
heights several thousand years ago. The Indian Perennial river
network including rivers like the Ganges and its tributaries, the
Yamuna, the Sutlej, the Vyas, the Ravi, the Jhelum and the Sindhu,
all originate from the mighty Himalyas in the North of Indian
peninsula. Down stream these great rivers provide a fertile basin
(land area) which is highly conducive for the growth of a rich
agricultural economy. The Aryans were the inhabitants of this rich
plain Delta land. A majority of them, the well-built, sturdy,
hardworking, fanners and the warriors were Jats. In due course,
according to one school of thought, the well-to-do Aryan (Jat)
population migrated towards Central Asia and European countries
through the Khyber pass bordering Afganistan / Kazakistan. Thus, the
rich Indian Vedic Culture spread to the distant lands in Europe,
including Yugoslavia. Yet another view is that the Jats (Aryans) came
to India from central Europe.
Irrespective of the direction of migration, the common body features,
dress codes, a mix of vedic names, titles, customs, rituals and a
host of other cultural similarities provide ample evidence of close
links between the Jats (Aryans) of India, Central Asia and European
countries, including Yugoslavia. The Serbian Medieval Emperor Etien
Dusan was a Jat. Like in India, a majority of Jats in Yugoslavia are
engaged in farming activities.
The Belgrade Convention will promote brotherhood and peace
The Jats are truly secular and follower of all religions. In the
Indian Sub-continent, they are Hindus. Muslims, Sikhs and Christians.
Not only they are good farmers, great warriors and defenders of their
mother lands, but they are also peace loving people. In these
troubled times, when mankind is faced with great challenges like war
threats by powerful nations, it is desirable that peace loving Jats
from the world-over get together and deliberate on the current world
situation to restore peace and tranquility among nations.
Supported by the Ministry of External Affairs , Govt. of India, the
proposed deliberations in Yugoslavia will promote goodwill among the
two great people. The Experts will discuss and debate about the
origins and roots of a great race (Jats) now spread over several
continents.
The two-day Convention will take place during the first week of
September 2003. Exact dates will be announced soon. Born in a well-to-
do Kuhar Gotra Jat family of Yugoslavia and married to a Kamat
Brahmin family of Goa, Smt. Leona Kamat Kuhar, is playing a key-role
in organizing this conference.
