Jat, seriously? Sahib pats Maya
Express news service
NEW DELHI, FEBRUARY 28 The Jats were in for a surprise today when Labour Minister Sahib Singh Verma, presiding over the World Jat Meet being held in Delhi, hailed BSP chief Mayawati as an icon. ‘‘She has successfully united the Dalits and draws her power from them,’’ Verma said. But some in the crowd did not like the idea, especially when they had a Jat bahu, Vasundhara Raje, sitting on the dais.
Verma had to clarify later that he mentioned the former UP CM’s name as an example because of her role in uniting Dalits as a strong front — something that, he said, the Jats lacked and needed to develop urgently.
Addressing the convention, Sompal, Chairman, National Agriculture Commission, talked of Jats not just as a caste but a way of life, culture and thinking. In fact, the international connections extended from Central Asia to Varanasi in India, he said. ‘‘We are pure Aryans and there is enough recorded history to prove this,’’ Sompal added. To stress on the ‘‘integration among Jats’’, this time the organisers approached some of the prominent names from among the 1.65 lakh Jats from Pakistan. Aitzaz Ahsan, former Home Minister of Pakistan and Pervez Illahi, chief minister of Punjab (Pakistan) had confirmed their participation but failed to turn up.
But there was a Karachi businessman, Haji Muhammad Jafar, at the conference. Among others who attended, were US-based builder R.S. Arya, US-based engineer Harsh Kumar and educationist Ghasi Ram from the US. Their patron and former DGP, Gyan Prakash Pilania from Jaipur, also spoke on the occasion. ‘‘Nearly 60 per cent of the soldiers martyred in Kargil were Jats, but we have not got recognition,’’ said Verma. A resolution was also passed which said that dowry was not to be given or taken and female infanticide should be brought to an end.

The article says "Among others who attended, were US-based builder R.S. Arya, US-based engineer Harsh Kumar and educationist Ghasi Ram from the US. "I just spoke to Prof.Ghasi Ram yesterday. He is in Rhode Island right now.Its strange the article mentions him as one amongst those who attended :):)

Among those invited, included, Shri Om Prakash Chautala, Chief Minister of Haryana, Ch. Ajit Singh ji, Ch. Tikait ji, and many other dignitaries. But due to the elections looming large on the horizon, not all of them could make it to the Convention.
It may be noted that Ch. Om Prakash Chautala, Chief Minister of Haryana was the Chief Guest and among other dignitaries Ch. Tikait ji was the 'Guest of Honor' in the First World Jat Convention held at Talkatora Stadium, Delhi in 2003.
Criticism of efforts of a dedicated team of community stalwarts, trying to take the Jats forward into the 21st century is unbecoming of members of this website, especially when their knowledge about reality is limited by their own narrow vision. It will be more meaning full for them to attend the Third World Jat Convention in 2005 and do something positive for the community instead of being a couch potato and ranting about their silly remarks. It shows how low an opinion they hold of the Jat Community as a whole. Have some self-esteem. And be proud of yourself and the Jat Kaum that you belong to and stop making stupid comments. There are many more serious issues in front of the Jat community than blabbing about politics. If you are eager to talk politics, then why not leave everything you are doing and jump into the general elections fray right now. We will soon find out how big a vision you have for the upliftment of the community.
People who created the World Jat Foundation are of great caliber and have dedicated their time and effort to building a new awareness in the community. They work more than 14 hours each day to make things possible. Try doing a similar International Convention at Talkatora Stadium without any support from any political party or social organization single handedly and then you will know what you are worth of.
What we have done is a benchmark for the Community. If you can't appreciate it! It only indicates the low self-esteem you have of yourself as a Jat.

I earlier got an impression that world Jat convention is about the welfare of the community, a way for the privileged one to give/get back to the community. An opportunity for the community think tank to come up with plans to help a common JAT to face the fast pace at which things are changing. An organization guiding, many JAT NGO’s doing some practical work at the grass root level for the predicaments elaborated in participants pre-written speeches.
But, wait a minute! What these guys are doing? A BJP election rally.
Sahib Singh Verma says that “You need some-one like Mayawati to capitulate on all the Jat votes, just like she did with the dalits – who blindly votes for her party”. He meant he is the one, every single Jat should vote for, unquestionably!
Ajit Singh was not there, Sompal Shastri was! Tell a guy from Baghpath that one, and you get a big thumbs down to the World Jat Convention (the poltical agenda there-in). Neither were any of the chotala gang, who are and prephs would rule Jat heartland haryana and Jatjyoti mission says “to work for unity among Jat community”.
I am quite perplexed why US happening Jats want to white wash their inclination to BJP, or whichever party they want to go for with such a community forum name. They should just go and campaign for it. Two possibilities, one, they don’t how these people are wasting their time and getting political mileage out of it, two, they wrongly perceive that these are the leaders who represent the Jats they want to reach and help.
Didn’t you guess, world Jat convention is infect limited to Jat’s who are having feel good fever.

Dear frineds,
This being a Jat convention, how can one not invite the jat politicians ? How come you think that politicians are untouchables ? How can one hold organisers responsible if Non-BJP politicians don't turn up and only BJP politicians take advantage of the ready made show? The convention was given due publicity and no one stopped so called self appointed critics from attending it and expressing their views. To me personally this was a great effort by the organisers and they deserve a real pat on their back for the good work done.
I have read other comments like whether Rajesthan CM is Jat or not and so on. How can one deny the right of being jat to the wife of a jat ? As wife of a jat she is entitled to all the equal rights. What is wrong in her using her relations with different communities to earn political advantage. In the history of power game every king has done so. Look at all the Pandavas who married all sorts of women and then their sons from these women fought along side with them. Akbar married Jodhabai to have Rajputs of Jaipur on his side. Arranged marriages have always been a tool to further one's social and power base and this is why these marriages survived so long in India. High time we jats think on a broader canvas and not along narrow paths..Let us not criticise positive efforts of people. Don't forget that to make conventions draw crowds one has to invite stars of the community. What ever one may say, politicians are stars as they draw crowds and its only because of them the media covers such events.

Rajendra

Politicians are the one we should always invite.
As many agree, they are the root cause of the problem and they are the ones who 1st need reforming. If more and more ppl can let the politician know that they know the value of vote and will not be blinded by tricks, the better govt we will get.

Dear Anuj,
i agree with you views and to add that rajneesh ji is having his own perception of the things. i do believe that politicians from any caste are simply doing business out of the emotions of the people. i have hopes for the future of my people if leaded by the efforts of sosme NGOs in regard to educating them to use education as a tool to share the power in capitalistsic economy of the day. though i do agree that a lot of wisdom and personality traits we cherished are due to our agriculture background, but future lies in the hands of enterprenuer economy. though we are late, but some sincere efforts though some NGOs and interacting with the educated people in the community at large will help to bring these changes. our successful icon Nitin can comments on this issue and an effort to organise it more professionally can be launched on the plateform of NGO for this purpose.
with regards and bests compliments

Isn´t 1000 years of history enough to love and appreciate way we look and what we have today?

Its too late to even write about it but what I saw I want to share with u.
When I heard about it I wanted to see some of my heroses like GP Pillania who fought for jats rights in Rajasthan and helped them in their struggle.
Everybody got emotional when Jafar from Pakistan told though I came from pakistan for business but when I heard about my jat brothers meet, my blood rushed in my veins and I could not control myself from meeting my brothers. However soon it became obvious it was BJP show, when A speaker started abusing muslmans and Islam,JAFAR was looking here and there greately embrassed finally when his turn again came he said I can say one thing when both hindhu and muslim religion is in any danger maximum blood shed on both sides is of jats only.
Finally Pillania ji got up and started a FIRY speech and then immidiately turned towards Shaib Singh saying you are our only leader It is you whom we respect etc.,my image of my hero started cracking ,I slowly came out of the hall, where another neta was saying we follow Chotala Saheb.I felt for jafer and me why we went there it was for voters only.
