The Election Commission has ordered the transfer of the Haryana Director General of Police M S Malik following complaints by some political parties that he was flouting election rules.

Malik's wife, Krishna, is the ruling party (INLD) candidate from Sonepat parliamentary constituency. And many political parties have complained that the police machinery was being misused in the constituency to reach the voters.

Following these complaints, the Election Commission asked the Haryana government to transfer Malik to a post not related to elections.

Chandigarh, April 8 (PTI): Haryana police chief M.S. Malik, whose wife is contesting the Lok Sabha elections as a ruling Indian National Lok Dal nominee, today proceeded on leave, averting a showdown between the Election Commission and chief minister Om Prakash Chautala.
