It seems that we have successfully survived the hangama of the last few days. Many of us took things a little humorously ONLY to lighten the mood. Nevertheless, we should not ignore the path that we must follow in order to maintain mutual respect and civility. I am placing this post in a separate thread with the intention that its message is NOT overshadowed.

1. We are all free to express our views in a civilized way. People will discuss issues and disagree all the time, and express opinions. Some times opinions become like a bad breath - we all got it during some time of the day but no one wants to smell the others. Only by maintaining civility we can learn from others.

2. Under no circumstances should we allow ourselves to ridicule, insult or attack someone in a personal manner, and certainly not publically. But violating this principle, we only succeed in exposing our own indecency in public.

3. Like in a court of law a person is innocent unless proven guilty, it is only civil to assume that everybody is worthy of respect regardless of age, sex, and ethnicity unless one has displayed some actions to deserve otherwise.

4. No one can derail any Karmyogi’s plans in life. We make or mar our lives ourselves. We all become responsible for our actions in life. My favorite book of all time (besides books on mathematics) is “ILLUSIONS” by Richard Bach. It is a small book. It is worth reading it.

5. Do good for others if you can, but it must be done in an unselfish way. We must NOT think that the world needs us more than we need the world - otherwise we are inviting an incurable disease. Ego, placed in a wrong place, is enough to trivialize a person’s life.

Let us all rejoice the wonders of life and bring happiness to our surroundings.
