Hello,

Bikaner has got new king recently. Jats ruled the area which is Bikaner for a long time. They were organized in small groups and ruled the area. There are many Jat Gadhiya(small forts) around the Bikaner. When Bikaner was formed, the Rajput Raja signed a deal with Jat Sardar from Godara gotra. Actually Godaras helped the Rajput Raja in becoming the king. Raj Tilak for Bikaner king can only be done by a Godara Jat. I read this somewhere in Jat history or Marwar History. Today I was reading the news in Bhaskar and found this news of Bikaner Raja's raj tilak.

I felt it was a shame. 50 years of independent India and we still see the news of the'crowning' of a 'raja' make headlines.

More distressing to see a few few 50 year olds putting shagun at a 20 year old's feet.

So much so for equality/independence/modernity.

we should simply put all the reporters/newspaper owners , who glorify this, in jail, also the guys who perpetrate these silly acts.

This is part of custom they are following. Whether we like it or not, we should not interfere in that and leave the things as it is. There are many customs in india which are more worse. The reported incident is just a part of tradition being followed there, a part of that are jats too. Let those jats do what they wish. It is with their consent and let us repect that.

There is a glory of valour too here (if you take it). As far I know the legend is incomplete and story goes that when jat ruler of Bikaner (a Godara) was defeated and the winner Rajput took him in custody. The fansy came to Rajput Raja's mind that he wnted his Raj Tilak by the defeated Godara Jat himself. The request was rejected by Godara. After a long dead lock, he agreed to do it but by his leg (pan ke angoothe se). That became acceptable to the Raja. I heard (the tale in Junagarh fort in Bikaner) that Raj Tilak was that way only.

It became a tradition in the ruling family (may be because of that Tilak by leg proved a good omen- Jat kee laat bhee achhee thee?) but all subsequent tilaks by Godara Jats was by a Silver or Gold (I am not sure) replica of the original Godara leg. The same is still kept in the palace. May be it is by that silver even now (I do not know).

Lets have comments on that.
