:) uday bhai ram ram,
here's your answer
kala means bada(large)
khurd means chhota(small)
explanation:
if there i a village which is very large like makroli(in rohtak district)
then people have separated themseleves into two parts.the bigger & older
part will be named as makroli kala.the small & new will be named as
makroli khurd. the people choose the village according to their farms
(khet).they live in the village which is near to their farms. normally the
starting of new village is with one or two houses & grown up with time.
for more clarification you must contact amardeep bazaad of makroli khurd.
:) ghaddee
it is the name of the village in which "THE GREAT JAT SIR CHHOTU RAM
WAS BORN".i will give you more information after diwali, till then
:) HAPPY DIWALI.

Dr. Sahiba,
many Happy Diwali to you with your family members. regarding your question about Khurd, Kalan and Gaddhi. Kalan is larger, Khurd is Smaller and Ghaddhi is a little version of Gadh. in ancient days Raja Log used to make a big construction, that was known as Quila (Durg) or Gadh. and at a small level People used to make little construction by Soil. that was known as Gaddhi. there are so many Gaddhies of Jats in Western U.P, Haryana and Rajasthan

Hi Guys,

As Bhupinder Singh has pointed our Kalan is "big" and Khurd is small". In Jullandar area we have the pinds (gaons), for example, Vada Rurka and Chota Rurka, which are properly known Rurka Kalan and Rurka Khurd. In addition, towns with suffix "kot" means fort or qila, i.e. Sialkot, Pathankot, Bhattiandakot (Bhattinda).

Best Wishes,

Dear Friends,
My understanding is that two villages established simultaneously or near simultaneously in close vicinity adopted the names KALAN and KHURD. Kalan is always considered ELDER rather than bigger. Sometimes the elder/younger relation could be based on dominant caste like BHAISRU KALAN( Pandits) and BHAISRU KHURD (Jats)or it COULD be based on the age / NEG of the persons establishing the village. Village established by an elder brother will become Kalan.

Garhi/Kheri are basically ofshoots of the villages and sharing the same ancestoral land.Other reason for naming them as such COULD be that the smaller settlement came up in the land boundaries of a particular village and got named as Garhi/ Kheri of that village.

The above explanation is based more on common sense and general knowledge rather than on authentic and historical research.

God bless you all.

Sub Bhaiyon ko Ram Ram

There is an examp of kalan and khurd,Tihara Kalan and Tihara Khurd.Tihara khurd is bigger then tihara kalan by volume but it is called chotta tihara and tihara kalan as bada tihara.

Tihara Khurd = Bigger by Volume = Called Chotta Tihara
Tihara Kalan = Smaller by volume = Called Bada Tihara

According to me name is mentioned by NEG.
