BHAGAT SINGH COULD WELL IMAGINE THAT WE THE PRESENT LOT[AS PER BHAGAT SINGH FUTURE GENERATION] WILL NOT BE ABLE TO HANDLE AAJJADI.......[PRECISELY THAT IS WHAT IS HAPPENING...IT IS FREE FOR ALL] ......Why he imagined so correctly, because While fighting for aajjadi,he could see from the attitude of so many so called freedom fighters that they had a specific futuristic agenda in their minds....and hence this observation of great Bhagat singh. His worries were not misplaced at all.Somebody had prime minister's chair in mind, some other wanted to be sung about,a few were great admirers of British............Koi garam khoon ka........to koi naram khoon ka...........Jitani dhuundhho uuttani hi varieties were available.bhagat singh socha karta hoga ki," WHEN THESE PEOPLE CAN'T FIGHT A COMMON ENEMY COLLECTIVELY THEN HOW WILL THESE MONGRALS WILL BEHAVE WHEN THEY HAVE TO RUN THE SHOW?

Before we get carried away in a wrong direction we have to assess the present situation fairly. India has potential to be a super power and it is not likely to achieve that status because of corruption all aound. But that does not mean we are not better off than we would have under the British. We are far far better off today because of independence.

My dear Dr Birbal Ji,

Questionposed by the THREAD was different . Here question is not, whether we are better or worst socially and economically but are we able to handle our independence/democracy meaningfully? What Bhagat singh might have thought has been vindicated by the present lot of so called NETAS. Progress in pockets as brought up by you can be of a little satisfaction though..............but that is not the question being debated here.

Dear All,

The concern of running country was not only of Bhagat Singh but many more freedome fighters and I would say even common person. When you are ruled for centuries by foreign powers, and suddenly you find that you may have to rule yourself the generation of such concern are natural.

When the ethnic roits broke out immidiately after independence, both Mr. Patel and Mr. Nehru were found wanting to control the situation. It is not that they were incompetent, but it was a unique situation for them to face.

The experience of running nation does not come over night. We have made mistakes and some times the big ones, but at the same time we have made progress too. The democracy has its own pitfalls. While we are practising the democracy not every one who is responsible of electing the government/representatives knows the true meaning of democracy and the power of his vote. Even the people who know it, get carried away by personal reasons and do vote some times for the wrong candidate, on the basis of caste, religion and the residency of the candidates. Some time a drink party decides the vote.

I have witnessed a Bar Association Election in 1998. 90% of the Attornys were lying in gutter after consuming free liquor. If that is the state of educated one, whose job is to interpret the law and get justice to common man, then why blame the uneducated and less fortunate one.

It is easy to blame the rulers for what has not been done, or what has been done wrong, but at the same time we must also acknowledge what has been done and what has been done right.

The core issue here is to educate people morally. Difficult but not impossible. Will not be over night, will take time. We only have to make a beginning and I am sure we can prove all those who worried about aftermath of independence, wrong. May be that would be a true tribute to their sacrifices.

This has been the topic of contention for long time since independence, and now with information reaching everyone's doorstep within atmost a days' delay, such concerns are gaining weight every day. But before we point finger towards someone else, we need to look into ourselves, what are we doing with the country? Do we interpret freedom in democracy as should be (A good soft-engg oriented book on this is 'Free as in Freedom' by ESR). We need to understand what our responsibilities as individual. I am sure Bhagat Singh had much more in his mind, than what we all know about. He saw right at that time itself that people don't use freedom as should it should be used. Beyond certain limit the freedon is what can be better termed as exploitation of the system.

Do we need yet another Bhagat Singh to change our society? His observations, ideas should be good enough for us to be true to ourself and our motherland and in broader perspective to the human community indepenedent of caste, religion and nationality. The caste, religion and nationality (or regionalism) are the theree main things, which breaks the human society in total.

I do totally agree with col. Tavathia, core issue is to educate people morally. We ourselves are responsible for making the difference in the world we live in.
