Rajasthan state is having the maximum population of jats. Jats have been rulers in ancient times in Rajasthan. The jat kingdoms such as Kushan Empire extended up to central Asia. Jat History is not recorded or the records have been destroyed due to obvious reasons of dominance of Rajput-Brahman coalition.

Without records how can we know the history? It is a big hurdle but nothing is impossible in this age of advanced science. Man did not know about atom and its particles. We did not know about universe. But now we know about atom and universe. It was possible because we took up studies systematically and scientifically. Same scientific approach is to be adopted for the study of Jat history. Here we are dealing with a living and intelligent target group.

Jats have preserved their living habits, their culture, and their marriage systems, folk songs and folk tales. While listening Rajasthai music and folk songs I found that these carry with them very important historical knowledge. The folk songs have survived with Jat population and carried from generation to generation orally. The research and study of Rajasthani folk songs can be of great help in finding the missing links of Jat History. Rjasthan has been crossroads for all the invaders to India. Some words carry the historical meanings. In Rajasthani language death is synonymous with HUN. The HUN invaders were so barbarous that death was certain where ever they invaded.

The Rajasthani music has so many things common with central Asia and Russia. Due to scarcity of water and difficult situations for survival in Rajas than the male members go for earning to far off countries. There were no means of communication in those days. One trip to far off countries used to be of 3-4 years. The feelings of female members left behind were expressed in the form of folk songs.

I remember one incidence of “India festival” in mid eighties organized in Russia. Indian Prime Minister Mr. Rajiv Gandhi and Russian president Mr. Gorbachyov were present in that function. It was a session of folk songs. I found that when Rajasthani music was started the Russian audience started dancing. This showed that there is some thing common in music of Russia and Rajas than.

There is one old famous Rajasthani folk song called KURJAN. It is named after a migratory bird that is called Kurjan in Rajasthani. This bird comes to Rajasthan up to Bharatpur sanctuary every winter from temperate regions of Siberia and Russia through Central Asia. It returns back to its homeland after winter. Now see the song how Kurjan has been used to carry the massage of wife to his husband in far off country.

RJASTHANI SONG- KURJAN
Supno jagai aadi raat mein 2
Tanai main bataun man ki baat
Kurjan ae mhara bhanwar miladyo ae sss
Sandesho mharai piya ne pugadyo ae !!
Tun chhai kurjan mharai gaon ki
Lage dharma ki bhaan
Kurjan ae ranyo bhanwar miladyo ae
Sandesho mharai piya ne pugadyo ae !!
Pankhan pai likhoon tharai olmon
Chanchan pai saat salam
Sandesho mharai piya ne pugadyo ae !!
Kurjan ae mhara bhanwar miladyo ae !!
Lashkarye ne yun kahi
Kyun parni chhi moy
Paran pachhe kyon bisarai re
Kurjan ae bhanwar miladyo ae
Kurjan ae mhara bhanwar miladyo ae !!
Le parvano kurjan ur gai
Gai-gai samdar re paar
Sandesho piya ki godi man nakhyo jay
Sandesho gori ko piyaji ne dinyo jay !!
Thari dhan ri bheji main aa gai
Lyai ji sandesho lyo thae baanch
Thae gori dhan ne kyon chhitkai ji
Kurjan ae sanchi baat batai ji
Ke chit aayo thare deshdo
Ke chit aayo may’r baap
Sathida mhane sanch bataade re
Udasi kiyan mukhare pe chhai re !!
Aa lyo rajaji thari chaakari
O lyo sathida thanro saath,
Sandesho mhari marvan ko aayoji
Gori mhane gharan to bulayo ji
Neeli ghori nau lakhi
Motyan se jari re lagaam
Ghodi ae mhane des pugadyo ji
Gori se mhane bega miladyo ji !!
Raat dhalyan rajaji ralka
Dindo ugayo gori re des
Kurjan ae sancho kol nibhayo ae
Kurjan ae ranyo bhanwar milaya ae !!
Supno jagai aadi raat men
Thane main bataayi man ki baat
Kurjan ae mhara bhanwar milaya ae !!
Supno re bira ferun-ferun aajare !!

Similarly folk songs of VEER TEJAJI and RAM DHANIA are very popular among the farmers in Rajasthan. These are sung by farmers while doing cultivation.

I request the administrator to have a form of Rajasthani Music also along with the Haryanvi Music.

Thank you Laxman Ji. I have no doubt that we have historical and cultural links with cenral Asia. Its very common for the immigrants to choose same names for their towns. Look at the names of citis in USA, Canada and else where..They have common names with the cities and towns in UK. If one looks at the names of towns in India which seem to convey no meaning in local language these days, one would be able to find towns with same names in many parts of Central Asia.

We have a small town near my village and the name of this town is Shamli. Lately I have developed interest in the history of this town and have started collecting some material. Just on a simple google search I found the towns with same name in North of Afganistan, Turkmenistan and Iraq. Many famous battles were fought around Shamli but there is hardly any mention of them in modern India History. My plan is to encourage some history student to take up his PhD thesis work on the history of Shamli.. I am sure many old villages and towns in Jat hinterland require the same.. We need to institue some fellowships for such research work..I am thinking very actively along these lines..

Regards
Rajendra
