Hi Everybody,
I need legal help urgently.
First I want to tell you about my problem.Currently I am on H1-B visa in USA and working here in Philadelphia.In my passport,only my First name is written.No last name or Surname in passport.Also in all qualification certificate only first name is written.Nobody care about the name specially in villages.
I applied for H1-B visa through a consulting company in USA.I got H1-B visa approval.Also on my 1-129 0R I-797 only my first name is written. But when I got visa stamp on my passport from USA Embassy in New Delhi.They did a mistake,
They put my First name in place of Last Name and put FNU(First Name Unknown) in place of First Name.Like FNU LASTNAME (My First Name).
FNU BALRAJ. I didn't care at that time about it.Even,I didn't know at that time that it'll create so much problem for me in future.
I think First name and last name is mandatory in USA.
So when I entered in USA ,on Airport they put same name on I-94.FNU lastname(First name) i.e FNU BALRAJ
Also on SSN and Driving License same name FNU LASTNAME(My First Name).
In INS(I-797 or I129) and Passport my name is written as only my First Name(Balraj).
Rest all document my name is FNU Last Name(my first name).
Now it creates conflict like in Passport name is different and in other document it is different.
Someone asked to change my name in all documents like passport,INS,SSN,Also asked for restamped H1-B Visa stamp.
I think,it is a long process.
I want to change my name in all documents before applying for Labour Certification.
Can anybody suggest me what I should do now? What are the steps to change name in all documents?How much time it will take in whole process and what are the step by step process(Like what I should do first,then second.....)?
For changing name in passport,It was given on web-site(Indian Embassy,New York) to give ad in Newpaper in USA where you presently live and in India where you were born ie Permanent Address?Collect newspaper clips and goto Indian Embassy.
What should be the text of contents for Ad in Newspaper?
Someone told me to go county court and take a order from court for name change and goto all places and update all documents according to new name.
Please help me in solving my problem. Is there any Jat members who is doing practice here and can give me legel advice which help me in solving my problem?
Also give me contact no so that if I need any info I can call.
