Dear All Jats in North America,
I was nominated as the President of Association of Jats in America NE Chapter, last year by the elderley members of the community in NE. As we tried to organize community function, we found that our address list was obsolete and in many cases did not have the email addresses and the phone #s of the members. There are numerous lists with various members as individual members had tried to do their best to keep the list updated.
When we organized the Diwali function, we did try to call each member, send email and off course the letter about the function. The result was outstanding and we found one of the largest gathering for the function in recent years. At least that was conveyed to us by members who have been in this country for a very long time. The entire credit goes to our young team comprising Mr. Sanjay Roperia and Mr. Sandeep Varma. Off course we were also helped by other members of the community like Mrs. Indu Tonk, Mr. Jatin and Mr. Kapoor Singh to name a few.
I think we can do it little better, by making an updated directory. What I request to you all is kindly send your Name, address, contact phone # and email address to my following email addresses:
veeru_tav@yahoo.com and veerutav@optonline.net
Your one email will help us do the needful and will help future organizers to spend less time to contact members.
I am sure, for the sake of community we all can send one email with our information.
I will appreciate an immidiate response from all the members in North America. We can then get this directory published and I guess we can mail a copy to each member. We can work out the cost of such publication and reimburse the person getting it published.
Can I expect an immediate response from all of you please?

Col Sahab
This idea of compiling a directory can be a stepping stone for numerous greater endeavors. I wish you all the best.
I have emailed you my updated coordinates (address/phone/email) and I am sure every jatland member residing in North America will spare a couple minutes from his/her hectic life to send you an email.
Bhai-yo aur Bahano (??), please send an email to Col. Tavathia and if possible post a reply to this thread confirming your action (you don't have to post your phone number/address here if you don't want to.
Every organization, especially if it’s a Not-for-Profit social entity, needs a few workhorses and AJA is lucky to have found one in Col. Tavathia. His relentless pursuit of community service, as President over the past one year, has invigorated the jat community in the North-Eastern US and has made AJA a much stronger and animated organization.
Long live AJA!!!
Best Wishes

Dear Kapoor Singh Ji,
Thanks a lot for your words of encouragement. It is the support of the community members that drives us to do more. I am very happy that many members have responded already by giving their information to update the directory. Many of them have also confirmed their participation. I am sure, as the members see this post they will forward their information to me. I want community members to join us on the picnic day to make it a great event. If we get enough member's confirmation, we will try to get this event covered by the media if so desired by the community.
Dear Members, Kindly respond ASAP for us to give time to do the needful. You will appreciate that the organizers have to do a lot of work to make it successful and all depends on your early confirmation of attending this event.
Thanks for your support.

Dear Community Members,
There are 93 people who have visited this post and only three replies to me those came on very first day, and they were from the personal emails I have sent to them.
I think it is too much of work for sending the information or writing an email to update the community directory. I have also seen members when they meet othewise that they are never invited else they would do wonders for the community. How can one invite any one if he/she does not have his/her information.
There are over 300 replies to the post about what Mallika does or does not do. There is only one to this post. That is where we stand as community. Any takers????????

Dear Col Tavathia
May be there are not many people from that part of the world on Jatland.
People like me have made it reach 93. Other means of communication might help.

Col. Tavathia,
Please dont feel disheartened by the subtle response to your post so far. Most members including me dont log on to this website on a regular basis and so might not come across this post. I m sure its just a matter of time before members of the community would step forward in making this a success.
Many thanks and congratulations on this endeavour;

Dear Tavathia Sahab,
I wonder if you have some one by the name Madan Pal Singh Verma on the membership list? He is from my village and migrated long back to USA. Yahoo people search shows that some one by his name lives in NJ. I am not sure if its the same guy. He did his ME from IIT Mumbai and then moved over to USA. I would very much appreciate some feedback from you on this.
Regards
Rajendra

Dear Aseem,
I am not disheartened at all. I am only puzzled by the fact that on the issues like Mallika Sahrawat, you get so many hits and replies while on the important issues we get very little response, and then we talk about being committed to community.
The purpose of my post is just to facilitate organizing the community functions and communication among the members. I have already used the alternative means and got the information that I needed. My post is only aimed to make the task simpler.
Any way, I personally feel, that communities can run without individuals while it will be difficult for individuals to progress without communities.
If members response, it will be good, if they don't it will be good as well. So not a problem.

From my experience, I'll say that maintaining a directory in such a way
is very difficult to maintain. People keep moving and these things just go
out of date pretty quickly.
A web site oriented approach might be better where people can add
their own contact info and update it whenever it changes.
This can either be done via a site like Jatland, or via Yahoo groups or other
such automated mechanisms that members may be aware of.
