I have read here and there that jats are descendants of scythians or hunas or aryans. I have no idea which one is true. Does anyone know how far back we can trace the origins of jats? or when did the word "jat" started to being used for the first time in indian history?
I have seen myself being talked as not from india but from other countries.
For instance i met this old iranian guy in a mall and he started to chat with me in farsi!! I told him I was from India and then he said in broken english that he though I was from iran!!
Well i met many people from iran and 1 iranian professor also and they all thought I was iranian!!
Then I met this jewish guy from israel and he thought that i was from jordan or some other arab country!! And he named names of every country that he thought I was from except India!!
Then i met this italian student from canada and he thought I was from albania!!
Then i met this girl from norway and she thought I was from greece or iran!!! Pretty close guess!!
Then i met this guy from serbia and he thought I was from turkey!!
My god those 2 countries are historical enemies. But he was nice.
Then i met this guy from turkey and he thought I was a turk!!
Actually I met 2 more guys and 2 more girls from turkey(well the girls were very pretty though) from some other University I went to and they too thought I was turkish!!
These are some of my experiences.
I have noticed physical features of people from different countries and come to the conclusion that in terms of racial/ethnic origins jats most likely are very closely related to persians. Now that is just my best good guess.
I intend to offend no one.

The stereotypical idea of an Indian in western society is that of a gujrati or a South indian (APU). I have been mistaken for all the above, and my father who was extremely lightskinned, and had very 'european features' was never once guessed as an indian when we were in Europe However, he took pains to point out that he was from india, and proud of it, just as I am.

My friend. My purpose here is to make a guess as to the origins of jats according to my personal experiences. Besides skin color, there are other physical characteristics that point to origins of a people. As I said earlier, according to my personal observation, jats may be closely related to iranians of the persian stock. (Now I have met iranians of the persian origin, the arabian iranian, the azerbaijani iranian and then turkish iranian. They do indeed look different. Then also iranians from the north look different from those of the south of iran.)
Now if I have read correctly, I recall that jats are supposed to have originated from scythians. But scythians were related to persians. And they spoke a persian tongue.
