Another name for buddha is sakyamuni or shakyamuni. I think it means the wise one of the sakyas. The Indian word sakya/shakya is another name for scythians. So if buddha was a sakya and if jats are descended from sakyas(scythians) then buddha may have been a jat.

Hello there! I'm Ujjwal Kunwar from Nepal and as far I know Shakya was Gautam Buddha's sur name and Shakyas are not Jats or Chhetriyas
. The Nepalese history says they were came from India and settled in Lumbhini, Nepal. And there was huge jungle of Shaka trees, they destroy those shaka trees and started living there. So after that they were called SHAKYAS. Now they are known as Baisyas (Businessmen and etc) in Nepal. So in my opinion if they were Jats they would be Chhetriya rather than Baisya.

As written in history Shakya was a republic in Mahajanapad yug and Buddha's father was a ruler of one part of Shakya ganrajya.
