I grew up in a family that has its roots deeply imbedded in the Armed forces. And so is the case with most people who visit this blog. Infact some of us are high ranking Armed Forces retirees.
Now heres the real issue. Inspite of such a high and unproportional number of Jats serving in our Armed forces, why is it that its usually some Bengali, or a South Indian, or Punjabi who becomes the Chief of either of the branches of the Military?
Put in your opinions.

This is what I wrote on this site on 25 Nov 2005
"There is no such rule in the Army Act. By the way no law can debar an Indian citizen from assuming any government post. It would be against the fundamental rights enshrined in the Constitution of India.
It is a fact that we have had no Army Chief from the JAT community so far. Let me inform the members that the present Naval Chief, Admiral Madhvendra Singh is a RAJPUT. His is son of late IC 1 (Indian Commission Number 1) Maj Gen Bhagwati Singh.
It has been a sort of unwritten rule not to make a JAT or SIKH the Chief of Army Staff (COAS). This is because of happenings in the late 50s when Nehru and Krishna Menon kicked up incompetent officers (Kashmiri pandits and Punjabis) before the Indo-China conflict of 1962. The Chinese kicked us despite the bravery of our troops. Gen Thimayya nearly resigned on this issue but then since he was a soldier par excellence, he didn't, as he didn't want to create bad blood between the Army establishment and the Government. It is basically the fear of the Politicians that a JAT or SIKH my indulge in a coup. Madam Gandhi too was apprehensive of this. This is the reason.
However, coup is the last thing on the minds of the personnel of the Armed Forces. They are too busy cleaning up the mess created by our short sighted politicians, who have ensured that our citizens keep fighting in the name of religion, caste, language, water etc. etc. And in any case today you have refugees who are dominating the 'Fauj'. If there is a coup they will sell the country or whatever is left of it.
I foresee a JAT/SIKH Army Chief in the near future. By the way the real operational power in the Army rests with the Army Commanders (JATS have held this appointment in the past and would do so in future too). Chief is only a figure head. (25 Nov 2003)"
This should lesses the anxiety I hope.

My dear Friend ,
Jats have excelled in a lot of other fields as well .... so please do not undermine the achievements of my proud, honest, hardworking, strong headed, culturally rooted community, by saying that this has been the only spehere of excellence for the Jat Community.
We have excelled in a lot of other fields ..... academics .... business .... science and tech ..... politics ...

My dear VJ Uncle,
I don't take an extreme position and that helps me an easy exit without hurting anybody and hence would like to repeat that I stand by what i have stated. JATS HAVE DONE WELL IN ARMED FORCES BETTER THAN in any other organistion.Total number of Jats in Defence forces APPROX : 3 lakhs:In all appx 8% of the total defence forces. Out of total 35000 Officers in defence forces 2000 + are Jats which makes approx 7% of the total strength of our defence forces. NOW Please give out your STATISTICS for the people to peruse and deduce .
Due respect to you.

The point of the entire discussion was, why Jats are not placed in the position of CIC of any of the branches. It was adressed by Colonel Jagmohan sir. Yes we have held the significant posts in the armed forces. Teh CIC position is merely significant, and is usually held by someone who our leaders are comfortable being brown nosed by.
