Dear all

There is amyth about rape-

MYTH: Victims provoke sexual assaults when they dress provocatively or act in a promiscuous manner.
FACT : Rape and sexual assault are crimes of violence and control that stem from a person's determination to exercise power over another. Neither provocative dress nor promiscuous behavior are invitations for unwanted sexual activity. Forcing someone to engage in non-consensual sexual activity is sexual assault, regardless of the way that person dresses or acts. Moreover we read in newspapers that a dalit women has been raped in the fields. She does not have provocative dress to wear. There are news about rapes on 5-10 years girl children daily. Does dress matter there?

Dear Dahiya Ji,

Your observations are right, but it could well be a contributing factor. Some times exposer of some part of the body may be provocative to the potential offender. While a Dalit woman may not be wearing a provocative dress, may be the conditions of her cloths may have exposed some part of her body to the potential offender.

I think it has to do more with the attitude of the offender than any thing else. Dress can't be the reason for rape, but it certainly could be one of the contributing factor in my opinion.
