The Subject had been discussed on this site earlier. I was just curious if it is affecting the Jat Community also in Haryana? I know a long time ago one person in my own village (Jat Family) got a woman from Guntur District of Andhra Pradesh for their son, who had a defective eye and could not get married in our own community.

Resp Col Sahib

I have done a survey of 12 villages in Haryana where there are 48 women who have been brought in these villages through middle men from Bihar, West Bengal etc . really it is a pradoxical situation on one side we are killing the girls in womb and on the other side we are purchasing them. These are the two faces of the same coin.

Yes Col. Uncle, I was also reading this news. Its pathetic!

The situation has become alarming and the need of the hour is to educate the masses about the implications of the female foeticide which is already happening that they need to buy brides from NE.

According to a recent report by the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) up to 50 million girls and women are missing from India' s population as a result of systematic gender discrimination in India.

According to UNICEF, the problem is getting worse as scientific methods of detecting the sex of a baby and of performing abortions are improving. These methods are becoming increasing available in rural areas of India, fuelling fears that the trend towards the abortion of female foetuses is on the increase.

Just recently I was reading a news item in some newspaper that in some village in Rohtak district the names of Jat wives were mentioned as Zareena and Sakina. God save our community.

well last time this subject was brought up we started seeing jokes about

Bhojpuri speaking children or sending surplus men to Russia. How is this practice

stop when even the educated members of the community trivialize the issue.

Oh dears, the previous generations commited the mistakes of murdering girl child and the present generation is facing consequences. Kanyaon ke katilon ke ghar mein ab aisi hi bahuen ayengi. Shayad yehi kanyaon ka abhishap hai ki aage ki generations "reli jat" honge. Ab bhi time hai let us resolve not to go for these sex determination tests. Agar hamein apni kaum ko jinda rakhna hai to beta-beti ek saman samajhne honge. Shayad log beta paida karke apni mardangi sabit karna chahte hain lekin sachchai yeh hai ki jo ek bin janmi kanya ka murder karta hai woh to insaan kye haivan se bhi gira hua hai.

These jouranalist should go and investigate what is happening at all these delevery clinics in Jatland. As determining the sex of unborn child is illegal. It is their responsibilty to bring out the nexus of Docs - clinics - parents - prehaps police, which is single major cause. Then would people start noticing it and there is possibility of general public movement, which can help bring the problem under control.

Dowry, remarriage, education has a lot to do with it.

What they do instead is, to look for something with shock value. Human trafficing is serious crime, but if the person is legally marrying the women and not ill treating her. What's the problem. To me, to an extent it seem a "tabu" propaganda to persecute these people (who bring non-jat women) atleast socially. If well to do elite Jat can accept intercaste marriage and why are we after these poor people? The gene - problem should be equally severe with the riches. Also note the reasons: for rich and well to do it is - compatibility, love, etc which stand nowhere when compared to the reason for these people who have no option at all. This "tabu" problem is so severe that some people in that category has to relocate. Which, I think, is a social problem.

This is part of the solution and not problem. These people who have no family, and hence no agenda in their life would otherwise indulge in crime, rape, prostitution and all kind of bad stuff.

I was, sort of, on a bit of extreme, but i think there is that angle to the problem too.

There are 1000's of east UP/Bihar/Asamese "nokar" working in wertern UP and that is a much serious traffcing problem. They get no pay, often beaten and mostly have to undergo forced labour. On an average there would be one death/murder (or murder by them) incident in each village so far.

The ex-pradhan in our village just brought in 100 of them and is sellng for Rs. 1500 each.

Anuj,

You bring up a good point. However these marriages to non-jat women cannot be placed in the same category as "intercaste marriages". The reason being that it is arising out of a grave problem - worsening male:female ratio - which is the topic of discussion here.

People are discussing the "problem" here. What you pointed out is one solution that the victims have chosen. I don't see a problem with a jat legally marrying a non-jat as long as she get fair treatment. But the problem still remains - Jats are killing their (unborn) daughters.

It is true that a lot of factors contribute to this (as has been pointed out by others). Dowry, identity crisis for women etc. If women can get their rightful place in this society of ours, I am sure girls will no more be considered a burden.

The incident of selling people that you pointed out is shocking indeed!

well inter caste marriage is good
but to go as gar as bengal and guntur
is no point ... what i think is that sex ratio is
very poor in our state ,infact the worse in our country
and specially in districts like sonipat, kurukshetra
it is extremely low... and why this is so we all knows
the birth of a girl child is not much celebrated
as the birth of a boy ... i dont know when we all
are going to grow and stop behaving like this
