Hi All,
Few days back i came across a thread regarding the Indians staying in foreign countries. I don't remember the name exactly at the moment but some lady started the thread with a concern that all NRIs should come back to india and should show patriotism by not staying in other countries.

Well few replies came for that and majority of discussion was bent towards that just being in India doesn't means that u r true to ur nation.I myself agreed to them

Here is an article "speech of President Dr APJ Abdul Kalam" which tell us exactly what needs to be done if u really care for being Indian.

This is a lesson for those who live in other countries and for those too who live in India but just do nothing except criticizing the system.

Bit lengthy but worth reading it..........gud luck

I think there are a lot of good things to take from the message from the President.

I personally liked this one the best:
'Why are we in India so embarrassed to recognize our own strengths, our achievements? We are such a great nation. We have so many amazing success stories but we refuse to acknowledge them!'...

Living in India is like living in parallel universes. U have great ppl like our President and then u have the likes of Laloo. Indian do amazing things and can be the best in the world. But "TEAM INDIA" has more failures than success. Its like our cricket team. One day they can beat austrlia and the next day they will loose to zimbabwe (Bangladesh too).

I think the most important observation is that foreigners ....conqured our mind.

we freed our land, but not our mind. The mind is still a slave and no one will let you free that bcos it benefits everyone in power. It benfits the politicians bcos u will vote for them, it benefits the businessman bcos then u dont compete with them, it benefits ur teacher in school bcos they dont have to answer ur questions, it benefits the police bcos 1 "lath" and case is solved and so on.

For freedom, u have to think outside ur head: a very difficult task indeed ?

Great thoughts from a great human being who was a great scientist and now a Great President of the Great Nation India.

Although whole speech is thought provoking, I particulary liked:

"Why is the media here so negative"?

" Why are we in India so embarrassed to recognize our own strenths"?

" We are such a great nation, we have so many amazing success stories but we refuse to acknoledge them" Why?

"Do we not realize that self respect comes with self reliance"

" What does system consyst of? Very conveniently for us it consist of our neighbours, other household, other cities, other cities, other communities and the government. But definitely not me and you"

Reply of 14 year old, "I want to live in developed India. You must proclaim.Inia is not under-developed nation; India is a highly Developed Nation"

Qoute: Ex Municipal Commissioner of Bombay, Tinaikar had said, "Rich peoples dogs are walked on the streets to leave their affuent droppings all over the place and thenthe same people turn around to criticize and blame the authoritiesw for inefficiency and dirty pavements. What do they expect the officers to do? Go down with broom everytime their dog feel the pressure in his bowels"?

"ASK WHAT WE CAN DO FOR INDIA AND WHAT HAS TO BE DONE TO MAKE INDIA WHAT AMERICA AND OTHER WESTERN COUNTRIES ARE TODAY"

Its nice to see, everyone believes in quality thoughts of President APJ,this is no doubt an impressive speech and which is so close to we all common people's life. We can directly relate his sayings with our day to day routine life...

And its really impressive to see you all want to do something for the country.even if not much we can take care of little little things like keeping clean around us.atleast we each can take responsibility of maintaining right attitude of our family members atleast.

Its a small thing but i remember a friend of mine had a habbit of not throwing garbage on roads while moving in a car or walking on road or on road by any means , used to collect in a poly bag and then threw it in a bin. I also started following that and forced my family and friends to take care of that...but it was really difficult to convince my family members for that ...like so many people they do agree its gud thing but they dnt give attention to....but i tried al lot to make it their habbit.

So we all can do atleast lil lil things which are part fo our routine life and we can make our friends and family to do the same.

Thanks....Parul

I found his thoughts on personal accountability in India as very uplifting.

In my current international relations studies, it is an established consensus in my class that India, as a power, has already risen above other states in the region. The trend is expected to continue. The key to success has been India's unwaivering commitment to democratic values and free enterprise.

I had a chance to interact with our current President before Pokhran and being President. I was in second year of my Enginnering Bechelor degree course and Mr. Abdul Kalam was chief guest for the degree function for recent passouts. Despite his very busy schedule that day he took time to interact with other students and discussed about his dream of better India.
In QA session(very informal) after that one student asked "Sir why you are working in India and not migrated to better place like US?"
He said very softly - " Why should I? How will India be a better place if we do that?". In a second statement he encouraged students to gather technology and education from where-ever they can with open mind and desire to work for Indian betterment from where-ever then are.

We shot few pictures (which I lost them now :-( ) with him, and tried to get his 'autographs'. But it was very late and he was nearly-sure to miss his plane ( it would not have waited for him as he was not president then ;-) ). In an excited situation we threw around 100 'autograph-books' (Some simple papers with person's name written). When the college car returned back from airport we were surprised to see 'each and every' 'autograph-books' signed by him wishing best wishes for our future. I still have that autograph with me :-)

Could not stop myself sharing this experince with you. I am optimistic about India's future since I know 'though we have so many Laloos we do also have Mr. President'. Hats off to him.
