One can see a politician and philosopher Chanakya in these quotes. As expected, both are at odds with each other. One should be very careful in following these advices, as their application is not universal. These advices were given under very specific conditions.

Personally I am very shrewed person in my life. But, only to the extent that I am the sole bearer of the cost of shrewedness. The quotes are very true and universal.Infact I live a life on these lines. One qote thats been ringing in my head for the past few days is: "Thotthey chane, baje ghaney." I have notices that people who dont know about something, they boast a lot about it. I dont know who said thiese words first, but once again some very shrewed and true words.

A picture of Chankya emerges from an old Indian Play--Mudra Rakashasa which deals with that period. Bold and scheming, proud and revengeful, never forgetting a slight, never forgettting his pupose, available himself of every device to delude and defeat the enemy.

As J.L Nehru wrote in 'The Discovery of India',
"There was hardly anything Chankya would have have refrained from doing to achieve his purpose; he was unscrupulous enough; yet he was also wise enough to know that his very purpose might be defeated by means unsuited to the end".
He further says,
"Long before, he is reported to have said that war is only a continuance of state policy by other means. But he adds, war must always serve the larger ends of policy and not become an end in itself; the statesman's objective must always be the betterment of the state as a result of war, not the mere defeat and destruction of the enemy".

These quotes reflect true personalty of Chankya and matching with his schemes of things and purpose in hand.

But I still appreciate some of these quotes

"There is some self-interest behind every friendship. There is no
friendship without self-interests. This is a bitter truth."

"Before you start some work, always ask yourself three questions -
Why am I doing it, What the results might be and Will I be successful.
Only when you think deeply and find satisfactory answers to tquestions, go
ahead."
"As soon as the fear approaches near, attack and destroy it."
"The world's biggest power is the youth and beauty of a woman."

"Once you start a working on something, don't be afraid of failure
and don't abandon it. People who work sincerely are the happiest."
"The fragrance of flowers spreads only in the direction of the wind.
But the goodness of a person spreads in all direction."
"Whores don't live in company of poor men, citizens never support a
weak company and birds don't build nests on a tree that doesn't bear
fruits."

"God is not present in idols. Your feelings are your god. The soul is
your temple."

"A man is great by deeds, not by birth."

"Treat your kid like a darling for the first five years. For the next
five years, scold them. By the time they turn sixteen, treat them like a
friend. Your grown up children are your best friends."

"Education is the best friend. An educated person is respected
everywhere. Education beats the beauty and the youth."

How contradictory these two quotes by Chankya are.. If one combines two quotes, first one looses its meaning. Second quote sounds like an after-thought..

Uncle ji:
Chanakya niti ke jarurat se jyada istemal ho raha hai apne desh me; i am wondering does everyone needs to learn and implement it. When ppl go and quote these things they shud remember that it a statesman's/ruler's code and not for all.

These quotes have relevance even today but saying that everything should be taken in context.

Vishnu Gupt was man on a mission, he was a teacher of political Science and a true son of the land.

He was the first of one in recorded history to have vision of one india, uniting people of this land.

He said these quotes in the context of politics...thats what I think.

These quotes are not unethical...but very relevent in the context.
