Thread: Hindi Kavita

  1. #1

    Thumbs up Hindi Kavita

Got the idea of this thread from the movie "Maine Gandhi Ko Nahin Mara" directed by Jahnu Barua, with lead characters played superbly by Anupam Kher and Urmila Matondkar. It is a gripping tail of a family's struggle to treat the delusional dementia of their old father. A poem that runs through the movie is very inspirational and I thought I should share it with the readers. Here is the poem, especially for those who get disheartened by failures. The poem is by the famous Hindi poet Suryakant Tripathi Nirala.

But the idea behind this thread is not to share just this one poem,, rather I feel there are many more very meaningful, good hindi kavita,,, which is treat to read. So I request all the fellow members, who are interested in Hindi Poetry to post any gud "kavita" with poet name n other reference. I ll also keep coming with my fav. poems (n there r many....).

So here is Nirala's "Himmat Kerne Walon Ki Kabhi Haar Nahin Hoti"...

The relationship between a husband and wife is based on total faith. A girl leaves her family and adopts the family of her husband. Her expectation is that her husband will take her in full confidence and share all feelings and thoughts with her. Prince Siddharta (who later became Gautam Buddha) left his wife Yashodhara and his son while they were sleeping, without telling a word, to start his own journey to Truth. That must have shattered Yashodhara. In this famous poem by Rashtra Kavi Maithili Sharan Gupt, Yashodhara wonders would she have stopped Siddhartha, had he confided in her. “For aren’t we the ones who readily prepare and send our beloved husbands even for wars, when it is required? So why would I have said no to him, if he had just told me?” she wonders. She is greatly anguished, but she loves him and even in her anguish she tries to defend his decision of leaving without telling her. A very touching poem indeed.

    क्षात्र-धर्म के नाते।
    सखि, वे मुझसे कहकर जाते।

    हु*आ न यह भी भाग्य अभागा,
    किसपर विफल गर्व अब जागा?
    जिसने अपनाया था, त्यागा;
    रहे स्मरण ही आते!
    सखि, वे मुझसे कहकर जाते।

    नयन उन्हें हैं निष्ठुर कहते,
    पर इनसे जो आँसू बहते,
    सदय हृदय वे कैसे सहते?
    गये तरस ही खाते!
    सखि, वे मुझसे कहकर जाते।

    जायें, सिद्धि पावें वे सुख से,
    दुखी न हों इस जन के दुख से,
    उपालम्भ दूँ मैं किस मुख से?
    आज अधिक वे भाते!
    सखि, वे मुझसे कहकर जाते।

    गये, लौट भी वे आवेंगे,
    कुछ अपूर्व-अनुपम लावेंगे,
    रोते प्राण उन्हें पावेंगे,
    पर क्या गाते-गाते?
    सखि, वे मुझसे कहकर जाते।

    जो बीत गई सो बात गई....

Neelam ji thanks for such a refreshing thead

Dont remember exactly when i got to read my first hindi poem ,but this very word reminds me of the NCERT book 'Swati' that most of us might have read dring our cherished school days.

During that time poems didnt attracted me that much as they came with a full scary package

But there were some poems that were very simple, quite realistic and so refreshing that you felt yourself getting dissolved with every word of that. Some were so motivating that unknowingly they gave us strength from time to time during high and low.

    Here's one from lot many...

    Good one...!!!

Thanks Sandeep you liked the idea.... this is what I had in my mind.. that some of the poems we read during school/college had stayed with us in our memories. I still remember some of them..... Here's one more -

(Kukana is a Jat gotra!)

    Very Nice Jit.....

    One more from 'Suman'
