Bahik (बाहिक) Bahika (बाहिक) Vahik (वाहिक) Vahika (वाहिक) is used for the Jats of Punjab. This gotra started from their capital named Bahik. Shalya was its king who used to take one sixth of the income as tax. [1]

Dr. Sukhdial Singh writes that the authors of later vedic literature have misinterpreted the word Vahika as 'outsiders' which is absolutely wrong. The actual meaning of word Vahika is 'agriculturist'; 'a man who ploughs the land'. The Jats are agriculturists since time immemorial. They were not nomadics. The authors of vedic period called then Vahikas. Even today the words Vahi and Vahikar are prevalent in Punjab. The Vahi means ploughing and Vahikar means 'the man who ploughs the land'. So Vahika does not mean outsider. It means 'ploughman'. [2]
