Om Prakash Chautala is the son of Chaudhary Devi Lal, a former deputy prime minister of India and Smt. Haraki Devi. He belongs to sihag Jat Gotra. (born January 1, 1935) is the leader of the I.N.L.D. (Indian National Lok Dal), a Haryana based political party in India. He is also five time former Chief Minister of Haryana.

He joined politics at an young age as political polling agent of his father, who contested in the first general elections for Punjab Assembly held in 1952. He himself was elected to Haryana Vidhan Sabha in 1970 for the first time and since then has won several elections to the State Assembly. He is a seasoned politician and fine orator. He is known as most active touring person to remain in touch with his electors in every nook and corner and an unparalleled orgniser of public meetings and holding of well attended rallies. He is great votary of the development of rural India as is reflected from his maiden speech delivered in the Rajya Sabha. As Chief Minister of Haryana he envisaged several policies and programmes for making Haryana a fast developing state of the country. He was the first Chief Minister to impose VAT due to which he became unpopular which was one of the factors that in the 2005 Haryana state assembly elections his party, INLD could not get majority seats, (winning just 9 seats in the house of 90) and he had to resign. Bhupinder Singh Hooda became the new Chief Minister of Haryana.

Again, in the State Assembly elections held in October 2009, his resurgent INLD won handsome seats. Since then he is the leader of the opposition in Haryana Assembly.
