Deshwal (देशवाळ) Deswal (देसवाल) Deswali (देसवाली) Desali (देसाली) Desiwal (देसीवाल) is a gotra of Jats. This gotra originated from Haryana and were known as Deswali due to their permanent settlement there. [1] They are found in Punjab, Madhya Pradesh and Haryana in India. This gotra is even smaller than the Dalal gotra and people belonging to this gotra are found scattered all over Haryana. They have a few villages in Bhatinda and some in Bahawalpur State and Rohtak. The genealogical tables prepared by the bards of these four gotras are incorrect because they called them the descendants of Dhanna Rathaur, when gotras like Mann and Sihag existed long before Dhanna Rao.

Distribution in Uttar Pradesh

Deswal Gotra is also found in villages Badheo, Kaserva, Dudhadhari Kheri, Basera and Titauli of Muzaffarnagar district of Uttar Pradesh. Deswals are descendents of Maharaja PrithviRaj Chauhan, as per the history narrated by Bhats. The Indian history, however, does not aknowledge the fact that Maharaja PrithviRaj Chauhan was a Jat.

Distribution in Haryana

Following villages in Panipat district of Haryana have jats of Deswal gotra: Mahawati (also spelt as Mahoti and Mahauti), Atawala, Atola and Unta. Villages in Jhajjar district: Kherka Gujjar खेड़का गूजर,Dulehra दुल्हेड़ा, Bhadani भदाणी, Surahti सुरैहती

Distribution in Madhya Pradesh

They are found in Bilpan village of Astha and Bhopal in Madhya Pradesh.

Distribution in Rajasthan

They live in Nadbai, Vijwari towns in Bharatpur, Jaipur districts. Also found in Sangariya in Hanumangarh district.
