Garhsauli (गढ़सौली/गढ़सउली) is a village in tehsil Sadabad of Hathras district in Uttar Pradesh.

Location

It is situated at a distance of 8 km from Baldev on Baldev-Kailash road.

History

This is an old historical village founded in year 1185 when Prithvi Raj Chauhan was ruler of Delhi. Chauhan was Anangpal Tomar’s dhevata (daughter’s son) who named it Garhsawali because it was site of ruined Garh. This later became Garhsauli. This is not a well-connected village. The villagers of this village were first to take part on call of Gokula against the rule of Aurangzeb by refusing to pay land-tax. There is a temple of Shiva near old pond and a grand Peepal tree called “Ajantarababa” in the village.

There is a village of Sikarwar Jats called Angai near this village. Kunwar Hukum Singh Sikarwar of this village had played important role in converting back Jats to Hindu who had become Muslims under the Aurangzeb’s rule by offering them hukkas. Mukadam Kehar Singh of this village was first to smoke hukka.

Jat Gotras

Population

There are 700 families residing in the village. Jats are in majority in the village. Tomar gotra is the biggest gotra in the village.
