History

History of this village is important as it reveals the history of Maan Jat Gotra.[2]

Bhim Singh Dahiya identifies this clan with the Rigvedic Tribe - Mana: (RV 1/169/8, 171/5. 1/86/5, 117/11, Vlll/18/20). The last hymn mentions a king, named Manya Mana. They are to be identified with the Mana, Mannai of West Asian history. They were on the river Purusni (Ravi) at the time of Rigveda. That it is a warrior clan, is proved by the fact that it is not found in the Brahmanic Gotra list of Purshottam.

Mann and Kahlon are mentioned in the Markandeya Purana together as Mana, Kalaha, Kohalakas (Kohlis) and Mandavyas (Mandas) [3] The original name is Kahl, the German Kohl. [4]

Mana (मान) and Hala (हाल) - Varahamihira mentions Mana and Hala together in his Brihat Samhita the name of a people [5] But these are two different clan names the Mana and the Hala / Hala . The Mana are separately mentioned as a people in Markandeya Purana and so are the Hala and their country in the North. [6] Mana was also supposed to be the name of Agastya’s father; and consequently his family is called Mana. [7] But it is doubtful, to say the least. Rig Veda mentions a Mana and also sons of Mana. (252-See SED, p. 793) [8] The Rig Veda/Mandala 1/Hymn 169 [9]shloka 8 mentions Mana as under:

"Give to the Manas, Indra with Maruts, gifts universal, gifts of cattle foremost.
Thou, God, art praised with Gods who must be lauded. May we find strengthening food in full abundance."

The Vayu Purana mentions them as Maunika or Maun (Man). Visnu Purana mentions them as Maunas , a tribe of Gandharvas, who annihilated the Nagas (Wilson’s Edn.) They are the same as the English/German, Maan. Their coins have been found in Goa/Konkan areas. Perhaps, They are the Mannai in the west of Caspian sea, who in the eighth century B.C. had their Kingdom , called Mannai, now Armenia (Ari-Man) . They were under the over lordship of Tiglath Pileser IV and it was on their seat that Deioces Manda founded his empire. [10]

About 1500 years ago a group of these people came from Ghazni and settled at place called 'Balavansa' near Delhi. Maan clan descended from Maas Singh. His son Bijal Singh came to 'Dhosi' village and settled here. The village Dhosi is surrounded by hills and situated near Narnaul in Haryana. Large number of people come to this place from far off places every year. Many temples and kunds have been constructed here. A fair is also organized at this place.

Prior to the Maan people came, Gandas gotra Jats were the rulers here. Bijal Singh was married to Gaurandevi, daughter of Nagal. He founded a village called 'Gorir' in the name of Gaurandevi at a distance of 3 km from Dhosi.

Roopram Singh was the chieftain of this clan after 20 generations of Bijal Singh. At the time of Roopram Singh Shekhawats had occupied this province. Roopram Singh struggled for about 10 to 12 years in mid nineteenth century against Shekhawats of Khetri, but Maan people did not accept the rule of Shekhawats.
