Indergarh

Indergarh is a town in Datia district in Madhya Pradesh. Its geographical location is |26|56|N|79|41|E. [1]It is situated at a distance of about 30 km in north-east of Datia town.

Demographics

As of 2001 India census, Indergarh had a population of 14,596. Males constitute 54% of the population and females 46%. Indergarh has an average literacy rate of 63%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 71%, and female literacy is 53%. In Indergarh, 16% of the population is under 6 years of age.

History

This place was in occupation of Raja Inserjit Singh (1736-1762) in 1758. It is believed that the name of this village was earlier Dard which later became Indergaon. The ruler of Indergaon was Indersen jat. He constructed a strong fort here. As per records this ruler was a Devaria gotra Jat. (Lt.General K.K. Singh). That time it was centre of collection of revenue of 58 villages. [2][3][4]
