Jaleu (जालेऊ) or Jaleu Bari (जालेऊ बड़ी) or Chak Jaleu (चक जालेऊ) is a village in Ratangarh tehsil, Churu district in Rajasthan. Jaleu Chhoti is adjoining Jaleu Bari but now abandoned village.

Founders

Bana Jats.

Location

Located 5 km east of Ratangarh city on Ratangarh - Churu Road.

Origin

Village gets name from Jal (जाल) trees found in abundance.

History

Bana Jats were the original inhabitants of the village. It was founded by them. All Banas have moved from Jaleu Bari. Water in the wells here is drinkable and being supplied to other villages having hard water. Village is settled within an old charagah left by founder Bana people. Author visited village on 2 July 2014. It was told that no Bana person in any village is poor.

Jaleu has a total population of about 650 families.

Other castes living in village are Rathor Rajput (400), Harijan, Naik, Khati, Kumhar, Mali and Purohit.
