Xàtiva (Hindi: जाटीवा, Spanish: Játiva) is a town in the province of Valencia, on the right (western) bank of the river Albaida in eastern Spain. Jativa is the capital of the region known as La Costera. It gained importance for its strategic location in the middle of a very fertile plain. This led to the building of the castle which overlooks Jativa.

Origin of name

Mangal Sen Jindal[1] quotes the Jat Itihas Page 44 ? [which further refers to a research work viz., 'Portholan' by Ch. Dhanraj Singh B.A., P.C.S.] Banda page 108 ? to his work where the scholar has referred to this city established by Jats in European Countries.

History

Xàtiva (Saetabis in Latin) was famous in Roman times for its linen fabrics, mentioned by the Latin poets Ovid and Catullus. Xàtiva is also known as an early European center of paper manufacture. In the 12th century, Arabs brought the technology to manufacture paper to Xàtiva.
